    Wreck

So I'm driving the two miles to my buddies house last night and while taking a turn the truck breaks free in the gravel on the road (at least that's all I can figure happened) and I over correct trying to regain control and smack a car sitting at the stop sign. Not good and I end up getting a failure to control ticket. The good news is that I was carrying and once I realized everything and everyone was fine I went ahead and locked the Glock up in the glovebox because I new LE was on the way and I figured it would just make him more comfortable. An Ohio State Highway patrol showed up (30-45 minutes after the call) and I let him know. He was very cool and professional about the whole thing. Even when I had to ask him to get the registration out of the glove box (where the Glock was) because I had forgotten to get it out first. Fortunately everyone was OK with just some vehicle damage.

Anyway, sometimes the OHP gets a rep of being anti-gun. This gentlemen was very professional and no problems.

Glad to hear that you are ok.

That rep usually comes from the former superintendent, who recently retired, and was the cause of the "plain sight" provision which also just went away.

Ya i think it depends on each individual officer.. glad to hear everyone is ok and everything went well besides the ticket.. not sure i would have disarmed, cause you never know what if the person in that car got mad and wanted to hurt or kill you.. maybe just me but i would have just notified the officer when he got on scene and went from there

Maybe different attitudes in different states, but I would not have disarmed unless directed to by the LEO on the scene.

I'm still not sure about Ohio's gun attitude. I might have done the same thing if I was in an accident. hope you came out ok.

I did wait for a bit to make sure everyone was calm, which they were. I thought about disarming or not and decided that it was safe to do so. Of course, it probably would have been better if I hadn't since I could have just reached into the glove box and got out the stupid paperwork. Ah well, I figured if the officer was touchy having the pistol put away would be better. You never know and I had time to make a choice.

If it is not in the US Constitution then the Federal Government should not be doing it.

Not juking you, Tony, for all went well.

But it is a sad state of affairs when we get so excited when an LEO treats us with respect...folks, we aren't doing anything wrong and that should be the norm, not the exception.

And, on a related subject, in my state I am not required to announce that I am carrying unless the LEO asks. Last Fourth of July I was rear-ended and said nothing about it; we did our business and went on our way. The fact that I was carrying had nothing to do with the situation at hand, he didn't ask and I didn't tell. So there....

The ticket was $200, I will take donations! lol

I'm with you JimmyC, sometimes I think as CCers we think the boys in blue can be against us. I don't think that's true of the troopers you and I interact with.

    WOW...

I haven't had a ticket in many years...

Sounds like the price of tickets have kept up with gas prices!
