"James Henry "Jim" Webb, Jr. (born February 9, 1946) is the junior Senator from Virginia. He is also an author and a former Secretary of the Navy under President Ronald Reagan. He is a member of the Democratic Party."

    Nice job.

Looked a little nervous up there. Like the cat was out of the bag. I thought it was interesting how Webb alluded to the fact that Senators do have the need to "protect themselves". Sounds like this is more common than we think. Will be interesting to see if security is ramped up because of this incident.

I only have one gripe. He referred to the gun was a "weapon"... twice. What happened to the term firearm? Or gun?

While he does say in this news conference, that he supports the Second Amendment & also says that "Virginia's carry law is a fair law"....he then caveats it by comparing the protection that the President (Executive) gets to the protection (or lack thereof) for the Legislative branch. Using that as his reason he should be allowed to protect himself & family. Granted that's good for him, but what of us? A true pro-concealer would have added a little bit more for the rights of you & I.

He tries to justify his carrying by this comparison, he doesn't however, address how EVERYBODY should be afforded this right. Just that people 'like him' should be afforded this privilege.

To his benefit, toward the end, he did say that he thought that where concealed carry was law, the public benefited....GOOD, at least there he is on the right track.

To me he came off a little disingenuous...........When asked about being 'above the DC laws', he sidesteps the answer by saying he won't talk about how he secures his own safety.

Part of the interview was good....the rest only fair.......

He also didn't address who's gun it was............

(pardon my pessimism..I don't trust ANY politician...they all are trying to get into my wallet or some bodily orifice)

Funny, they left out the word "porn" before author.

For what it is worth, it was a weapon. Wouldn't be worth having if it wasn't.

I'm glad he refers to the "gun" as a "weapon." That's what it is and that's what it's intended purpose is. Today, even on "fair and balanced" Fox (today's morning and last night's crews) was questioning why he needed to "pack heat" (God how I hate that infantile term), that....*GASP*.....it was loaded with bullets(!), among other foolish questions and suppositions regarding Senator Webb's questionable decision regarding arming himself.

I do agree, what is good for the (government) goose needs to be good for the (private citizen) gander.

pessimism understood...same here..and I DIDN't vote for him. Although I do think I understand where he was trying to go with the executive/legislative branch thing. I think the point he was trying to make is that even though he is in the government, he isn't afforded the same security protections that the executive branch does and therefore should and does protect himself and his family. I think he was just trying to get the message out but bobbled a bit under the press pressure. It is quite an explosive issue in the liberal media so I give him two thumbs up for putting it out there.

i think he did a pretty good job of showing his pro-2a stance while also trying to not start a media firestorm.

It sounds nice but, in the end he is a politician and that means he still thinks he is above all of us Plebes. And what the ultimately means is, he has the need and right to protect his life and his families lives but we shouldn't really need any of that same civil liberty.

He should have went deeper and said that he, just as any US citizen should have the right to protect themselves and their family even in Washington DC.

He may be Pro 2A but, he isn't Pro 2A enough for my liking.

He was asked point blank "do you think the law in DC should be changed so that citizens can carry firearms?" and he said "I am a longtime believer in the 2nd amendment and that the Virginia law is a fair law and that where ever you see laws that allow people to carry generally the violence goes down and that is a long held position"

What more do you want him to say?

As far as him not answering the "do you think you are above the DC Gun law?" question I thought he answered it very well by not answering it. I get the impression that he thinks that the DC law is bad and he breaks it and will take the consequences if he gets caught. I also thinks that you and I should break it if we are prepared to take the consequences.

Now I am a die hard Republican but this Democrate is on the right side of this issue.

What is everyone problem with him?

If it is not in the US Constitution then the Federal Government should not be doing it.

Because that is what it is and as a Marine (Jim Webb is a former Marine Captain - highly decorated) you call it what it is - a weapon.

I have a concealed weapon permit......What does yours say?
