Being from Upstate NY I can tell you theat she may never get a permit. Sherriff office is only the start . She will have to state the reason for the permit (self Defense is not looked on favaorabley try Hunting) then she will have to get affadavit references then is moves to a deciding judge and then the state may isssue. Stay in Fla. Best choice I ever made was moving from that backward grimy overtaxeed liberal enclave to Texas.

Any one ever see the the movie Escape from New York Sorry that slipped.
Turn around and get back to FL...

yes...yes it does. In some counties it is even more than 6 months...for example I'm in Monroe county. Here they make you wait 6 months before you are allowed to apply then it takes another 6 to 9 months after you apply. The good news is that this county is pretty much shall issue and gives out "unrestricted" CCW permits.Just sucks cause doesn't seem fair that one has to wait 6 months without a handgun. Love Florida.
It varries from county to county but here's what I needed.
4 references from the county I live in who I have known since I moved here
3 notarized letters of reference from people in my former state
1 very simple 1 page application done in duplicate
1 mental hygene check concent form
2 sets of fingerprints
4 2"x2" photographs
$5 to buy the permit applicatoin
$5 to apply for the permit (state limits the cost of the application to $10 by law but they get around that)
$15 for fingerprints
$99 background check
