Chief Serpas is pretty much known to be anti-gun for private citizens. The few times I recall seeing anyone carrying openly there was a badge next to the weapon. I wouldn't carry openly but you're more at ease with it in general so it's your call - lots of yuppies and sheep here though.

I go to Nashville (or Nash Vegas as its known in Knoxville) 2-3 times in a year. I have never seen a gun in the open outside of Bass Pro Shop! I carry there concealed every time I go, but I wouldn't open carry.

I don't see open carry. While it's not illegal, I wouldn't do it because it would get you all sorts of attention you don't want. While TN is rather pro-gun, cities tend to not be.

    It's not common for Nashville.

That's too bad. Memphis has no problem with open carry and it is supposed to be the most liberal city in the state. And I had always heard that Nashville was very conservative and very cool.

Well, I guess I will carry concealed while I am there Friday. No big deal.

    Thanks everyone.

I live up by Fort Campbell and only travel to Nashville occasionally on weekends, or to pick up my wife. She works in the Green Hills area of Nashville.

My observations may not be sufficient to base a sound decision on. What part of Nashville are you headed to?

Nashville is conservative and liberal, depends who you are. Nashville has a big gay community and lots of alternative folk, and on the other hand has many enormous churches and traditional folk.

I hardly ever see any open carry, only really amongst the construction trades to be honest.

I think the problem is that people don't know that you can open carry here so if you did they would call SWAT, that's what we were told in our permit class.

What are you in Nashville for? What areas are you visiting? We can give lots of tips if you need any.

4-5 times a year in Nashville. I have never seen open carry. I would not want the attention.

I would also say no. OC is legal here in KY, but it is known that you just don't do it. You may get away with it in smaller cities, but not in the larger ones.

That's right, open carry in larger cities and in most cities is just asking to be hassled, legal or not.
