    Bunky, shut up.

Homicide: Life in the Streets is still my favorite Cop Show. There is an episode called The Documentary in which all the detectives basically say: "Yo bunky, shut the hell up. Why would you talk to an Homicide detective?"

I recently had a Security training class related to the hospitality business. One of the points covered was the presence of firearms on property by workers. The trainer made it very clear that company policy stated that under no circumstances anybody working for the corporation was allowed to have a weapon on property. Now this was made very clear when you are hired and is in the handbook that you sign for when you are hired. So, much to my surprise, I see the following develop:

Trainer: You must not have any type of weapons while on property. That includes firearms, knives, electric devices, pepper spray, etc."
    Bunky: (raises his hand)
    Me (mentally whispering): (uh-oh)
    Trainer: Yes sir?
Bunky: I have a Concealed Weapons Permit...
Me (mentally whispering): (Oh sh**! Shut up!)
Bunky:.... and I when I come to work, I take my gun off and put it in my briefcase....
    Me (mentally whispering): (nononononoo!)
    Trainer: (blinking hard by now)
Bunky: .... and I am trained in.....
Me (mentally whispering): (OK, you are cooked)
Trainer: (cutting him off) Let me repeat again: Under NO circumstances an employee may have ANY type of wepon on property.

By this time Bunky realizes the kind of manure-storm he has just put himself in and shuts his mouth. I must add that the training was happening on corporate property and qa couple of higher ups were present and staring veeery hard at the guy. So, applying the inmortal words of Detective Kellerman to carrying/having a weapon on company property: "Yo Bunky, shut the hell up!"

Wow. Do you suppose states should start requiring an IQ test prior to granting a CCW permit?

I do not advocate breaking the law or defying private property postings of no guns allowed. I support what ccw9mm states: "Your best weapon is your brain. Don't leave home without." I would add practice using your brain every chance possible and practice keeping your mouth shut. No one cares about your training or qualifications or experiences unless they are of the same viewpoint. Bunky you can still grow up to be a sheepdog but learn to keep ones mouth closed. Right now your talking and actions those of a 'puppy'. This forum is a great place to learn....as are some other avenues.

Great idea. Let's make rights only matter when you're smart.

I hate quoting movies, but in "Get Shorty" John Travolta's character says something along the lines of "I'm not going to say anything more than I have to."

This is how I try to live my life, by saying nothing more than I have to.

Your co-worker (Bunky) needs to apply this philosophy.

Bunky does not work with me thank God.... and after his revelation I don't know if he will be with the corporation much longer.

I've worked healthcare for 17 years. At the 4th hospital I hired on with, we went through a similar situation. It was late, I was tired, and in no mood for poop from "Bunky" or the Security Chief.

The SC gave about the same answer Miggy relayed, and at that point, I leaned over to"Bunky" and stage whispered, "But if someone tries to mug you, and you can get the gun away from them, you can shoot them, since they are violating campus policy......" Hard for the SC to say much, with everyone chuckling. You do have to know your audience, though.......

Yes, "Homicide:....." is a good COP drama, although abit weird at times. The best, at least my favorite, REAL COP SHOW is, "the First 48". Real bodies, blood and investigations. Recommend it highly.
