For the most part no. The only time there is a handgun in the car is if I go somewhere I can't legally carry it.

Only when I can't legally carry. Then it's under the seat in a locked box cabled to the seat frame.

We live in a "nice area" that is about as safe as any area can be these days. There are car break ins even where we live - many of them in the parking lot of our local "club" restaurant (which is posted & signs have force of law here). Poof - there goes your gun, and now the BG has it to commit a serious crime. You do not want to be a partner to THAT.

And, many years ago in the very nice old fashioned little rural town where we lived, where almost no one locked their house doors: One day the owner of a local clothing shop right on Main Street came out at the end of the work day and his car (which was parked in the lot right next to his store and also right on Main Street) WAS GONE. The whole car. Right in the middle of the day with lots of traffic.

He didn't have a gun, but if he did he would have lost both the car and the gun.

Even in a locked garage, a gun in a car is not a good idea. YES, most of us do have lock boxes with cables where we have to temporarily store our guns in our cars when going into a place where we can't carry. That is doing the best we can do given the circumstances, but short of a real sturdy car or truck designed safe that is bolted to the frame, keeping a gun in the car is not a good idea.

I work at a University and Until Aug of 2016 I can't conceal Carry inside any buildings. So When I get to work I drop my Shield into one of these: vehicle lock boxes.

Keeping any firearm in your car is simply not a good idea. I leave nearly nothing in my vehicle unless it pertains to that vehicle such as registration and proof of insurance.

The only time I would keep a firearm in my vehicle is when I am in operation of it.

Simply.....no.....I do not keep a firearm in my vehicle.

An often posted thread. I'd like to ask if I may to the OP. Why do you ask? Why do -you- keep a gun in the car (if you do)?

    TIA.
