Out Of State Resident Permit In Oregon

I visit Oregon a lot as my sister lives there. I am a resident of California. I know that Oregon does not reconize any other states license. But do they issue their permit to out of state residents?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Oregon Revised Statues, sec 166. Check ORS 166.291, which covers issuance of licenses. I believe you must be a resident of an Oregon county for 6mos+.

However, according to Handgunlaw.us, Oregon does indeed have a program of issuing permits to residents of neighboring states. Though, I don't see anything in ORS 166 to indicate that non-resident licenses are granted. Check with the Sheriff's office in either Douglas Cty or Clackamas Cty, for further details.

Thanks! I was confused too. packing.org had it listed as yes. But I could not find anything on the states site regarding out of state residents.

If you go there on a regular basis, I think they can issue you one.

oregon can issue a non-resident permit to a resident of a neighboring state. however their non-resident permit program is "may-issue". you have to have a compelling reason for them to issue to a non-resident. like california, some county sheriffs issue more readily than others.

Thanks for the information! My sister is in Eugene.

I probably won't bother. I doubt I can show good cause while traveling there, beyond everyday self defense.

^^ Hey, don't knock "good cause" when you think you've got it. Simply, being already duly authorized to carry a concealed firearm (CHL) in a neighboring state is a strong hand. Combine that with frequent trips to the neighboring state (Oregon) to visit close family, and you have plenty of ammo, IMO. Give it a shot. Can't hurt. But yes, call around to the Sheriff's dept of your choice until you find one amendable to the concept.

True true. I have already got past one of the hardest states, California.

Then Utah and Florida. "not a big deal"

Main holes for states I visit a lot are Nevada "not hard but takes time" and Oregon. I am heading to Oregon to visit my sister in mid May. It just so happens to be a business trip too. My business was a big part of my "good cause" here in California.

So time to do some SD research. Thanks!
