You are the man, Sir. I salute you.
America. The land of the free because of the brave.
That is sweet
It's to bad that they're probably bothering someone else now.
Being peaceful does not guarantee peace, strength and a willingness to commit violence when needed does.
I've done the same thing, on a lesser scale, myself.
We live near a homless charity (actually really nice folks and not a usually problem), but every once in a while a panhandler who gives me the willies will start up to one of us while working in the front yard.
I usually just take my cover garment off and keep working... they always go away.

For once, "exposing" in public was not in indecency [sp] =-)
Great story, too bad there will more of them renting that place.
Great ending to a typical 'trash' story...

GOOD JOB SIR!
Don't you wish you could tell the aliens which folks to abduct?
DaveT, I have just one question, well actually two combined. Are you actually the retired former Chief of the town or was the Chief just doing a little creative embellishment? Either way good job.
Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe. Albert Einstein
I like that story. Gives us all some food for thought. Good job.
My wife and I moved back here because her family is from here.
Most folks remember my time served here, but it was such a long time ago. Now there's a whole generation of folks here who weren't around back then and don't know. The current Chief's reminder was most certainly appreciated !!
Easy solution to the problem.
Don't hit at all if it is honorably possible to avoid hitting; but never hit soft!

Just wait until the renters from hell break into your house while you're not there and you find all your guns missing.

...we are NOT a free people.
House is very well secured, gun safe is hidden in a wall and welded into place.
If someone were to break in, all kinds of alarms would go off, including instant notification to both the local police and Sheriff's Department. My cell would also be dialed.
Crooks would be on camera by hidden video cameras. so there would be a good record of their presence inside the house.
At night, motion sensors let me know someone is on the property and motion floodlights are automatic. Backup generator in case the power goes off.
Then there's the dog....... he really doesn't like strangers.
Wasn't always this way, but the constant succession of low life's renting the house across the street has given me every reason to stay current with the latest in security technology.
There is no such thing as 'absolute' security, but what I have set up is better than what most home owners are willing to bear the cost for.
