Got made by the doc today

Had to make a visit to the ol family doctor today. I didnt think I'd have to take my shirt off for what I went to see him for, but he wanted to do a check up while I was there. I had my 642 IWB. I took off my shirt and kept it over my gun, then he said "lay back on the table". I laid back and said " I've gotta tell you I have a firearm in my waistband" , he said "Why? You dont have someone chasing you around do you?" I said " No , I carry everywhere I go. You dont have many come in here carrying"? He said " No we dont see many guns here". I said "Well you probably dont notice all of them"..I felt by the way he was talking, he was anti, but then he said " I wish somone had a gun at Virginia Tech", I was quite relieved. I wasnt looking forward to an anti spill..So then we talked about how carrying is a good thing. It' the most time I've spent at the doctors office yet just shooting the bull..He didnt say he carried, but he was glad to see me carrying.

Nice to hear of a Doc with an open mind - who didn't panic

My Doc is a personal friend of mine and he carry's too so I'm not worried about bringing a gun into his office. Besides, he hasn't posted any of those "Gun Free Zone" signs on his doors so I'm covered.

We usually talk firearms for 10-15 minutes as a standart part of my exam.

A few weeks ago I took off my cover shirt and wrapped my holstered gun in it before the Doc came in.He waited to leave the room till I did so I replaced my holster when I got back in the truck.

my doc is kind of odd. he knows i carry; i needed him to fill out a form for my PA Act 235. he's fine with it, but he questioned me when it comes to carrying around my kid. "are you sure that's a good idea?" he asked. i told him i thought it i'd be negligent if i didn't carry when i had her with me. he asked about ND or AD, then i explained that the only way my gun would fire is with the trigger pulled. he just shrugged, and said, "well, i guess that's fine." he never brought it up again. his receptionist gives me a queer look, now, though. i guess i must be one of them crazy gun nuts.

I guess if he had got real "anti" on me, I would have been polite and probably just got me another doctor. I'm glad it went the way it did. Since he said " We dont see many guns in here" , maybe not many people carry when they go see the doctor. Are there people on here that leave their gun in the car when they have a doctors visit?

When I went through my CCW class the instructor said that one of his previous classes had been all doctors.

    My Doc's orginally from Cuba.
He thinks everybody should be armed.
Really a neat guy. That's coming from somebody that hasn't seen a doc since 1972.

My doc and I are hunting and fishing buddies, plus we sing together in the church choir. There's not much we don't know about each other. We both carry.

Don't know many doctors (and don't trust them much either) but there is a dentist that shoots at my range. He worked his way through dental school as an assistant coroner in some big city, and is a good source of information as to what will do the job and what won't.

I had a PT that was very pro-gun.....from back when he (was born and raised) lived in the Philippines. His father was, if I recollect, in their justice department/ministry and carried a gun for protection from Communist terrorists (I assume from the New People's Army). He carried a gun himself as early as nine or ten as well.

My old pediatricon lectured my parents about guns because they refused to answer the question on the docs form. When my father said "enough" she stopped (when he speaks, which is rare, people listen). After she trheatend to turn him in to Family services because he smokes we were gone. we thought about going back one more time where I would go in, I transfered out of her office this year due to past medical conditions which made it better to stay with her, and both dad and I would carry.

It is better to have your gun and not need it, than to need it and not have it!
You cannot choose the conditions for a gunfight, so train in all conditions!
