Shooting Suspect Charged in Hazleton
UPDATED: Thursday, May 10, 10:48 a.m.
By Jon Meyer
"A man is now charged with shooting three people Wednesday afternoon on a Hazleton street.
Guy Cliett was led to jail in handcuffs after his arraignment in Wilkes-Barre Thursday morning.

Police said Guy Cliett, 36, from the Philadelphia area, was arraigned in Wilkes-Barre Thursday morning. He faces more than a dozen charges, including aggravated assault. Cliett has a criminal history with drugs and violence. His bail was set at $1 million.
Police said the shooting stemmed from an on-going disagreement between Cliett and the victims.
The shooting happened on East Chestnut Street about 1 p.m. Police filled the street after the shooting and a state police helicopter flew overhead.
"I was sitting on the porch with my girlfriend and I heard 'bang, bang, bang.' I said to my girlfriend, 'that's not fireworks. That's gunshots,'" said Jeffrey Capece.
"I heard the shots go, I was in the store. They wouldn't let me out," said an elderly man who wouldn't give his name. He was stuck inside the store right across the street as police investigated and searched for suspects. "I spent three and a half years in the Army in Italy, France and Germany, didn't get hit and I can't walk my own street?"

Yep - sad to say that is the way to view things. That is why even in my relatively quiet area, I carry constantly.

Well - I hail from Hazelton, PA. Spent the first 17 years of my life there. I still have relatives there. When I left in '86 it was sleepy.
With all the illegals and the influx of NYC and Philadelphia city people since then, the street crime has shot through the roof!!!
Barletta has got it right with the illegals problem. In fact the previous murder spoken about in the news precipitated the Barletta action. The other problem of moving in city people, well, that's water under the bridge. No changing that.
Growing up, Hazelton was known as "Mob City". There never was your general thuggery street crime, just the organized type. And we never spoke of the social meetings on ever Wed. night when there were at least one restaurant closed.

After an in-depth study about crime...I have found that it only occurs at one of two times...
1.)When you're prepared...
2.)When you're not prepared...
Stay armed...stay prepared!

"Why do you need to carry a gun?"
Because in 18 years as a uniformed officer carrying openly, I never had to resort to the defensive sidearm.
Not once.
Ever.
HOWEVER --
Off duty, in civilian attire, I carried everywhere and everywhen.
Three times I had desperate need of that concealed handgun.
Because I went my way armed, and carried concealed in civilian attire, I breathe air today.
That's why!

Everyone here is preaching to the choir...
My question is How do you inform those who refuse to be informed? Make believers out of those who refuse to believe?
There are those who which, even if violent crime were to visit them on a personal level, they would still choose to disarm the law abiding.
That is not only sad... but it angers me and troubles me greatly!
How do you get through to someone who is supposed to possess the same capacity for logic as the rest of us do, but refuse to see the light?

Bark'n, there are some that will understand once explained to them. Some will only understand when something happens to them and some will never understand. We must keep talking and offering our point of view "converting" those that we can. Maybe they themselves will be able to convert more even among those we were not able to convince. We cannot be frustrated because some refuse to learn, it is their choice like it is our choice to carry.
This month was a personal gold moment for me. Some guys at work know I am a gun fan and asked me about guns and permits a while back. Two of them already sent their paperwork to get their CCWs, one is just waiting for the next class and one more accepted an invitation to shoot for the first time in his life. I know I have scared more people by telling them what really is like to carry a weapon and the changes that they must have personally. They decided not to change and that is fine with me too.
