    Carried all semester

I turned in my grades yesterday, which means the semester is officially over for me. I'm a graduate student at the University of Utah where, thanks to our excellent state preemption law, not only is it legal for me to carry, but it's also illegal for the university to prohibit it. I carried my USP compact .45 every day this semester (well, except for one). When I first got my permit, I was a little leery of carrying in class (despite it being both legal and in compliance with university rules). I was so afraid of getting made I considered taking off my gun everyday and putting it in my backpack during class. In the end, I took a deep breath and decided I'd try carrying it on my person while teaching. Of course, there's no way to know for sure if I got made, but none of my students ever mentioned it or gave any indication that they noticed anything unusual.

This has really given me a lot of confidence in my ability to carry concealed, and is one of the reasons I'm considering moving up to a full sized handgun. If you want to get really confident in your carry method and concealment, stand up in front of a class teaching for a semester and see if anyone notices!

Goes to show - U of U is hardly flowing in rivers of blood!

Glad you persevered and as you say now - no real problem. Wish this were a national situation . I really do.

Too bad this wasn't so in Virginia. They had a chance and screwed it up.

As both a full-time employee and student at the "gun free" (aka "disarmed victim zone") University of Louisville, I offer you a hearty 'meh'. But only because I'm bitter ;)

I'm one of the fortunate ones that's also allowed to carry on campus. Utah is much more friendly even than where I'm at, so kudos to them. I've amazed myself with the ability to carry a full-size without freaking out... :)

You evidentaly don't go to KU if they were any more anti gun you would have to go through a body search to get on Campus.
