    Question International Gun Travel?

I travel a lot, mostly nationally. But occasionally I travel to other countries.
I have traveled mostly to Asia, but this summer and fall I will be going to Europe.

I was just wondering are there any gun friendly countries to travel with your side arm?

Its a very easy process flying here in the USA with your guns.

I really doubt I can fly anywhere outside the USA with my guns, but I cant find anything about it on the net.

I dont have an answer to your question, but I would be very shocked if you could carry your pistol in another country. The customs check would be bad enough....

As far as i know - being from germany - it's not allowed to carry any firearm in europe. They pretty much have the "if you're in trouble, call 112 (the european version of 911) and we will help you. If we don't make it in time: tough luck!" thing going on :(

I remember Ayoob saying a long time ago that for LEO's traveling overseas for official business like teaching a seminar or something it is very difficult with lots of hoops to jump through.

I believe he said it was almost better to have the officials from the dept who is sponsoring your business issue one of their's when you arrive in country. And that's coming from someone with an International Reputation in the LEO community.

Anyways, that was partaining to LEO's with some form of Official Business and that was also a decade or two, pre-9/11.

I think civilians are SOL for the most part.

You might be able to sneak one over the Mexican border in a car.

Oh wait, I forgot... the Mexican government enforces their borders vigorously.
Gun Control means never having to say "I missed you."

You might get out of the airport at the other end, but your guns will surely stay there.

If you really want to see the inside of any European jail, then try bringing a firearm into any of the major or minor Countries in Western Europe. Even the Secret Service has difficulty in bringing firearms in when the President travels. Just leave them at home and enyoy the scenery or stay at home if you really, positively need that concealed weapon. For an organized international shooting march (say IPSC or something similar) you may be able to bring in a stripped, broken down target pistol under bond, but other than that!! Dave_n

Unlikely, but you would need to check what ever country you were going to visit.

Before retiring I did a great deal of international travel. At one point I was spending a lot of time in Colombia, S.A., one of the most dangerous countries in the world. I had a pretty good political connection and felt I could probably get a carry license.

So far so good then my thinking went astray. I knew that the 9 mm. was the most popular international hand gun cartridge, so I bought a Glock 9 mm. Then I learned that in Colombia, you could have any caliber handgun you wanted except 9 mm. For some reason they banned military cartridges and, of course the 9 mm is a military hand gun cartridge world wide. Oh Well!
