    POSTED Gunshop?

I was out with a buddy today, he was looking for some mags and a holster for his USP when we found a gunshop that was posted. Now I we were in TN and here posting holds water. Can someone explain why the shop would post, and even put in the notice including concealed carry. He wanted to go in so I left it in the truck but I was PISSED. I called the shop later, the owner was not in but I spoke with one of the floating managers and assistant to the owner. I informed this nice lady that I did not give her shop any money nor would I in the future because I refuse to do business with a place that is posted.

She informed me that she has had this discussion with the owner many times as she and other employees who carry are not permitted to as a result of his signs either. She said she would pass this information along to him as well as ask him to return my call.

Anyone out there from North East TN might want to contact Mahoney's and tell them the same.

Mods please advise if posting the phone number is ok.

So no CC or no carry at all?

my local gun shop does not all CC but you can open carry all you want.

Please clarify. I am assuming you said NO GUNS but you mentioned concealed.

Thats just plain stupid... oh well. Personally, I dont care if a business is posted or not. Its their business, they should run it as they see fit. And its my money, I'll spend it where I see fit. This place isnt one of them.

If I read it correctly, the shop also prohibits its employees from carrying on the job. If so, that's quite possibly the worst idea i've ever heard.

Sounds like a gun shop that is 'ripe for robbing'...

    No guns, no money...no problem!

The gun shops I frequent have no such signs...the staff all carry...some openly/some concealed!

I would be heading for cover if someone attempted to rob the gun shop in my 'neck of the woods'...(The BG would find that drinking a glass of water may be a real challenge after making such an attempt...mental picture of cartoon character with 27 body holes and water leaking everywhere...)

    Stay armed...find a new gun shop...stay safe!

A lot of the shops around here have been posted for years, "Except For Law Enforcement".

Even though I am in Law Enforcement I refuse to do business with those shops because of the sign. I do see their point of view however. Years ago I used to work in a local gun shop. You would not believe the number of idiots that come in, pull a loaded gun and then proceed to trying out holsters.

Like others have said, "They have the right to post, we have the right to not spend our money there. To me the simple solution is, keep it concealed and there is no problem.

Someone needs to come up with a sign that lets all the idiots out and about when you go in to a gun store you don't pull your weapon unless it is to defend yourself. If you are going to get an accessory for your weapon you need to clear it. I don't know the exact words to use but I do understand (not agree) why a gun shop would post a no guns sign. It is easier to post a no guns sign than the sign I am thinking about that I can not really describe.

Sort of a "DON'T Be stupid" sign.

One of our local gunshops has the following very prominently posted in large letters on the front window:

"Concealed carry is ENCOURAGED on this property!"

When you first pull up to read it you kind of do a double take cause so many shops have the "all weapons unloaded" sign.

    I love it!

I don't believe I have ever been into a gunshop where no one was carrying. I am in NC and every shop I have been into, you see every employee in the shop carrying. That is just really weird for no one to carry or be allowed to carry.

In my opinion, it looks like they are trying to create another "GUN FREE ZONE" in their store. I believe we all know how these zones work and turn out. That store should prepare for the worst. I am not wishing any bad actions, but if court house's cannot protect the people inside then what chance does a independently owned gun shop have. Criminals would have free reign of the store and anyone it if they desire.

Good luck to them. I would not shop their either.

The sign on the shop I frequent most is:

All firearms unloaded with actions open, except CHL.

The employees carry. The only time I've made someone was one of the employees (though I didn't say anything). The company uniform is an untucked button down shirt...perfect for CC!

It's my understanding that, like Biker said, the reason some gun stores are posted is because they don't want people walking in and pulling out a loaded gun because they are trying to sell it, need new sights, etc. While I can see their point, I would not like working in a place where you have people doing that, and it seems they always have to wave the gun around while doing it, making the place totally off limits to carry is overboard IMO. Gun shows do this for the same reason. But there has to be a better way, a sign that says quitely clearly not to bring in loaded guns to sell, trade, etc would work.

I'm with Sixto on this one, I'd spend my money somewhere else.
