Most of the ones posted in Topeka area are the Malls and Kwick stops.

I was traveling around for a week in Topeka, Lawrence, and KC, KS. I carried and never saw a single posted business. I was lloking for them too, becuase of the controversy over CC out there. The only sign I saw was at a park/preserve in the middle of nowhere (near silverlake) with hiking trails.

I'll soon be a Kansan, and my wife will be working in Johnson County, though we hope to live closer to Topeka. Can't wait for the adventure.

Kansas is a great place to live, but you wouldn't want to vacation here.

I am sure it is tied to the fact that you have some who want to believe in "Intelligent design" that is causing the issue. We all know that some there were evolved from apes, knuckles still dragging the ground that are causing your problems..In actuallity, you guys have come far, and it will improve. The only issue I have with Kansas is Sebillius. That will go away soon as did Carnahan in Missouri. Just don't repeat the same mistake twice..

I need to step up here and put in a good word for Kansas.

We are defiantly late bloomers here in Kansas. For many years we were shielded from the problems that predominantly plagued the coasts on either side of us. Unfortunately we now have a taste the same problems the rest of the nation has. The bigger cities are dealing with crime and the typical liberal BS and we have filled our capital city with all the idiots of the state. We have decided to elect a Governor that has been nothing but and embarrassment for us. We have elected and Attorney General who looks and acts like a crime boss and we have a have a State School board that doesn’t care a thing about the kids as long as they can argue over how we all got here in the first place.

However things are not all bad in Kansas. The rural areas and the smaller communities are still filled with great people and are still great places to live and raise a family. Many of us still go to church on Sunday and most all of us can still be found catching up on local news at the high school football game on Friday night. Most of us still carry a gun in the gun rack and taking your boy out of school for opening day of bird season, spring turkey season or deer season is almost expected. Get out of Kansas City, Topeka, Lawrence and Wichita and we have a state full of secondary education facilities that are much more conservative than many in the nation. We are common folks with common values and while we made make mistakes on Election Day we are working to change that. We have passed a concealed carry law and passed concealed carry reform legislation in back to back years over the veto of our misguided leader.

Stay away from a few well known bad places and I think you will find Kansas is still a great place to be. Not perfect but not bad.

    Kansas

Freetrapper, Your are spot on about KS. I have trucked through there for years and it is a good state. I wouldn't mind living there. My heart really goes out for Greensburg. Been through there hundreds of times. Was even snowed in there one night in 1985.

We were stationed in Leavenworth, Kansas from the early 90's through the mid 90's. After a short stint at Fort Polk, we were blessed to be able to come back, and eventually, we retired here. My youngest son is a native Kansan...my older son has adopted Kansas as his "native state"...military brat born in Germany.

Kansas has conservative values and generally friendly people, not to mention the relative economic stability that made the decision to live here easy for us. If you get out of the more liberal areas, typically centered around college towns...and I'd dare say, anywhere you go in these United States, you'll find college towns a tad more liberal than most other areas, I think you'll find Kansas a right nice place to settle down and raise a family. We sure did.

Kansas is generally pretty conservative. I was surprised to see Hays as a liberal city. Except for the college, it still a conservative town. Its gotta be!! I was born there and Wild Bill Hickock was city Marshal there!! Steve48

Freetrapper -- Well said! Except for ten years in the Air Force, I've lived all my life here. Occasionally, I've thought about moving to a southern coastal area because I love salt water, but probably never will. The prairies have a subtle beauty of their own, and a clear night sky is georgeous!

I love to visit the ocean, but I don't want to live there. The concentration of liberals would make it difficult for me to breathe.
