I like the idea about a sticky or FAQ section addressing this.
While 99.99999999999% of us think that a badge is a bad idea, it's a valid question to ask.
Several years ago when I bought my first pistol, I heard some guys in a discussion about whether badges could keep you from getting shot.
I then asked this same question on a different forum back then and got my head handed to me. The concensus seemed to be that if you asked the question, you were a moron.
A brief discussion about it is all it takes for most people to realize that it is a bad idea.
I think its good to discuss this question from time to time for the newbies.
A sticky could make the info readily available without subjecting us to repeated badge discussions.

I think one reason why this badge topic comes up so often on all of the gun forums, inlcuding ours, is that many of the gun magazines advertise these things.
Like Guns magazine, for example. A recent ad pictured a shield-type badge, accompanied by flowery prose, like "Identify Yourself". "This Badge May Save Your Life". "Police Quality. Gold Plated". "100% Legal For Permit Holders", blah, blah, blah.
This is all advertising hype, of course, but people fall for it.

The problem is, if it is advertised in a gun magazine, I want it! It's just a trained response, sorta like Pavlov's dogs. It MIGHT help 1 in a 100 times, but NOT HELP, or worse, most of the time. My .02...

As many at the time speculated , it was a good fella having a bit of fun with the blood pressure of some board members . Now it has reached the level of an urban legend on the online gun community . If i am ever in the knoxvill area i dammed shure will stop into CCA just to meet this fella lol .
