I remember hearing a story told by an Medical Examiner once.

    The story goes:

A man broke into a womans house, she gets her gun and yells for him to get out. He jumps into her 3 year-old daughters room. She chases after him and shots him. The ME discovers that he was shot twice standing up and 3 times while he was on the ground.

The woman was questioned about this and said "The frist two was becuase I was scared for my daugther, the last three was becuase I was mad. She wasn't charged with anything.

He should have known better than to get between a woman and her child.
Primal instinct kicks in (with most people).
Glad she "took care" of him.
