Stopped by LEO Today...
So, I'm cruising down the road in my car today. Cop behind me. No big deal. Long story short, I was stopped. You can imagine my confusion. However, I was on my way home to pick up my HK because I left the house in a rush... I had my holster but not the weapon. For shame, I know. haha
When the DPS officer approached I did the dance and informed him that despite the fact that my holster was on, I was unarmed. He looked at me and was rather confused. I told him I was on my way back home and why. He started laughing and asked if I had my permit I said I did. The officer asked where I had gotten it and I told him "Gunsite." I hadn't noticed the other officer walk up the other side of my car.
Anyhow, the officer and I completed our business and we joked about forgetting a weapon yet remembering my knife... but not my HK. I was about to pull away and head home when the unseen officer called to me and asked me if I could step out of the car. Suddenly terrified, I got out very slowly and approached the other officer. He laughed and apologized - appearently my face betrayed my feelings. The same officer proceeded to ask me a few questions about Gunsite... the prices... the experience... which class I took and what I wanted to take. He even took out a notepad and started taking notes!!
Picture driving by a police stop and seeing a young guy with a shaved head and a sports car laughing and joking with two cops...
The note-taking officer finishes with a few questions and I have to ask him why he's so interested. He tells me he's been thinking about taking their 250 pistol for awhile... he just hadn't been able to find anyone who had taken the course. I pointed both of them to this site and the blog as well. We talked some about concealed carry and self defense... both officers were big on the idea. They asked more about what I carried, what kind of holster, etc. What was supposed to be a 10 minute stop ended-up taking thirty minutes. It was actually a lot of fun!
And no, I didn't get a ticket.
Anyone else have a LEO encounter like this?

My hat is off to you. I don't know that I would go to a a shooting forum and then admit I left home with an empty holster.
Glad everything worked out for you. I hope the LEO reads your blog about Gunsite. I learned more about the school from that than all the other things I've seen about it combined.

LIFES JOURNEY IS NOT TO ARRIVE AT THE "GRAVE" SAFELY ,IN A WELL PRESERVED BODY.BUT RATHER TO SKID IN SIDEWAYS TOTALLY WORN OUT SHOUTING "HOLY

Don't feel too bad..I left the other day w/out mine too.first time in like 4 years I forgot my piece.......flet like dope.
I haven't been pulled over since I've carried,I often wonder how it would go..I don't have to inform the officer here in NY,but I probably would....I guess someday I'll find out.Although I do drive like an old man most of the time.

Kudos on the honesty....
Looks like not one, but two lessons learned here:
1. Bring your loaded weapon
2. "Check your 6"

Tail lite fluid
Man oh Man... did I EVER get a dope slap from my wife about that.
The neighbor-lady came up to me while I was working on my brakes
and said ALL her rear lights wouldnt work........without missing a beat I asked her if she had checked her brake light fluid? I told her to give me a second and I'll get 'em working......obvious fuse blown.....but she had left. Wife came out a few moments later....on the phone....with the neighbor lady....and b*&%h slapped me for telling her that.
She went to the Auto Parts Store and asked for some! I'm still laughing over that!
As for the LE encounter.....glad that turned out good for everyone involved.

Sounds like a great stop to me...
By the way, just check the extension cord, sounds like the brake lights need to be plugged back in...
Stay armed...bring your pistol...stay safe!

In Missouri, I don't have to inform LEO I'm armed unless asked...
However, if you are driving your registered vehicle, it will come back that the owner is registered ccw when they run your plates for warrants and registration.
