How Long for residency in Indiania so I can apply for my permit?

Does it take to establish residency in IN for applying for a CCW permit?

I just moved from Northern NJ to SW Indiana. I'm anxious to get my CCW. It's something that I've spent a lot of time thinking about, and planning. It's also something that I've looked forward to.

Does anyone have any information about this?

You'll have to find/check the state website and laws I am thinking ...... but if they follow what seems average then 90 days - after which present utility bill payments etc and a state DL.

Very relieved for you that you have gotten out of NJ.

    Thanks Chris,

I appreciate it :). I'm going to miss my friends and part of the environment from NJ. I'll esp. miss alot of the gun culture people I got to know. I'll miss them forever.

But thank you for the good wishes.

That Jim is always the hard part but I think the answer is to view the move as ''for the greater good'' - hopefully.

It also I think gets harder with age - seeing as I left (somewhat willingly!) the UK in 2000 but age 55 ... that means leaving a lotta friends behind, and a bit of family too. I have yet to meet my lil grandson over there and he is going to have a brother soon too!

Much as I cuss phone and even email sometimes, it is a blessing to be able to stay in touch at least up to a point. Once you get settled and find all the shooting places and folks it will get easier.

As a born and raised Hoosier I can say I think you will like it there. I hope to move my family back to the great state of Indiana someday from West Tennessee in the not too distant future.

When I moved back to Indiana, as soon as I got my DL, I went down and started the paper work and had no trouble even though I had only been in the state about 1 1/2 weeks I changed all my addresses before I left.

I am was in your shoes not long ago.

I just moved to Indiana as well. all I have here is the g/f, dog and the shooting range.

I changed my DL two days after I got here. I did wait 90 days to apply for my permit.

It took them about 4 months to process my permit. My g/f had hers returned 3 weeks after I got mine requesting more info. Once she sent it back she got it a week later.

I think that people sometimes equate 'residency' with a waiting period of some sort...
Some colleges, for example, require that you have residency for a length of time to get 'in state' rates, etc...

However, residency occurs when you change the driver's license...you can then apply for a voter's registration, CCW (if offered), pay income taxes, etc, from that point on...

CCW's in a state requiring 'residency', can be accomplished when you get that driver's license...

The rest is down hill...no residency time frame/as opposed to a residency timeframe...no problem!

If it is just residency...get the DL.

    Stay armed...stay safe!

As long as you have taken up residence with "the intent to remain" in the State of Indiana, you have established residency. Just get an Indiana DL if you haven't done so yet, and go to your local police headquarters to get bthe ball rolling. Also, Indiana now has the option of getting a "lifetime" permit. I'd do that so you don't have to hassle with it again.

No waiting period here in the Hoosier State, we're funny that way. :-] You do, however, need to get an Indiana Driver's License. Once that's done, apply away.
