But seriously folks, I've never considered keeping one under a pillow. It just doesn't strike me as very safe especially as I'm a person who, according to my wife, rolls around and moves a lot in my sleep. It is in a special place right next to me where I can easily reach it. But then I'm just a poor civilian, not a trained and experienced professional.
    Thats me too exactly........

    Amazing that this happens.

    Fobus makes this mount:

    But it's Fobus...

    www.sshmi.com makes a better mount:

I bought one but have not installed it yet.

I know some here do sleep with their gun under their pillow. I have never understood that, as I see if hitting the floor or of course, accidents. I knew a guy who did this, but he was a loon. Do you know anyone who sleeps like this?

I do not know anyone that sleeps with a gun literally under the pillow.

There are all sorts of reasons it's not ideal.

It's poorly secured, allowing the gun to shift throughout the night. Will it be where you expect it to be, should you need it? Maybe. (I've seen the knots in the morning that used to be my sheets, so I can't imagine what might occur to a pistol stuffed under the pillow.)

It's within instant reach, which is bad juju for those who sleep heavily, wake up slowly, sleepwalk. It's much safer to have a well-guarded perimeter, to give you sufficient time to access the weapon and wake up sufficiently to deploy it safely. (Alarm system, heavy door/jamb, barred and locked door.)

It can fall, bouncing to a place where it will be inaccessible if needed, or (worse) firing unintentionally. At minimum, the thing should be just out of arm's reach, such as in a holster mounted to the bed frame or in a quick-open mini safe.

It makes a hump under the pillow, and that's not good for the neck/back.

At worst, the insta-access and magic-location-swapping nature of an unsecured weapon can get someone killed. Likely, that person will be yourself or your loved ones. That's reason enough to pick another method, all by itself.

All in all, there are better ways to have a gun in the room. Under the pillow isn't that place, at least for me, for these and other reasons.

I don't sleep well with anything under my pillow (tooth, pea etc), I keep my insurance in a 4 digit lockbox so I have to be alert enough to gain access
Why is it that you always find things at the last place you looked?
Because when you find something-you stop looking-Mooch
