True, but over all 143,943 new one with 21,346 expired leaves a net gain of 122,597.

Not to bad if you ask me. I will have to dig up the numbers but I think that is a lot more then Colorado!

The newness wears off, people find out the difficulties of carrying and decide too much trouble. Also MI is on hard times so those who are struggling to pay bills may not have the extra cash to renew.

When I was gettn my permit, I had talked to my best friend. He pretty much tried to talk me out of getting it. He said " Oh my dad carried for a few years and the desire wore off". In other words, his dad quit carrying, so I will too, so don't bother even gettn it. I'm sure for some its like a fad.
It is a problem carrying sometimes. But educating myself ( or maybe just finally WAKING UP ) , has changed my attitude on how to keep me and my family safe. I believe I'll always carry. Besides , I feel naked now when I don't carry and thats no way to feel in public.
I've forgot my cell phone several times, but I have yet to forget my gun.

Could it be the increased cost of the new permit...
    Original 3 year permit, $45.
    Training session $50.
    Gun Holster, up to individual.
    Now....
    Permit 5 year, $145.
re certify (yes I know this is not mandatory but why lie on the form) $50-$100.
Not every one can afford this, fixed income, job loss, increased expenses.

With the MI economy as it is...I would guess that many moved out of the State...

They say that about 1000 people a month are moving into FL...some of them have to be from MI!

I love Michigan and the UP... I love the Great Lakes area in general, but won't move to Michigan because of the economy there. Really a shame...
