    SWEAT!!!! Urgghhh!

Just thinking - summer is coming (well - here that is a rumor! LOL) ...... and I have a problem with sweat. Had ''Mono'' back in 1969 and my thermostat is all but non existent!

Now - when I say sweat I mean - SWEAT ....... the liquid that pours out of every part of me - in volumes that can only be described! My carry last year was SP-101 - and apart from the leather changing color - no probs. I followed the stainless trend when I got the SIG - 226ST ... tho that yet has to go thru a full summer's sweatbath.

So - fellow carriers - if you sweat (medium to buckets) how does this affect your carry thinking? Does your leather cut it and does your piece manage also?

My early carry (now wife's) was an M85 snub .... great lil' gun but - it carries not only much holster wear but also when inspected close enough - pitting at top of grips from the dreaded sweat. Here is that ol' friend BTW .......

Here in Arizona it is a "dry heat" so of course we never sweat even when it is 120 degrees.

Of course you know that's a bunch of BS but, but honestly even here I don't sweat that much, just get sorta sticky. If I did, I would probably wear Kydex or one of the new carbon fiber holsters. I expect that once sweat has gotten saturated throughout a holster the captive salt might still present a problem to a blued gun. I just absolutely, positively hated Kydex like the plastic it is, I would wear a cheap leather holster and replace it every year after getting one of the new finishes (like Rogard or something similar). Just a thought.

I did actually Bumper - resort to Kydex when I carried P95 - it was in fact only rig I had for it then but - it was also sweat-proof!!

BWT that M85 - bit of nostalgia really - it was my very first carry piece!

    P95Carry Stainless...Don't Sweat It.

I have yet to be able to make a S&W or a Ruger Stainless gun show rust.
I'm "best guessing" that SIG is also using an ultra~high quality Stainless steel.
On Blue & parked guns I am having GREAT LUCK with Blue Wonder Armadillo Wax Real Nice Stuff!

It's a pretty amazing protective coating & it sure does work.
It's real dry & kinda cakey when you open it up & you'll think it's too dried out BUT it's supposed to be that way. Just follow the directions.
By The Way...Leather Looks GOOD with Sweat Stains on it!

Haha - yeah - sweat stains give ''character'' yeah! My first rig for SP-101 was my Jim Burke - since copied nicely by Kevin of K&D Holsters ......... brown (tan) has metamorphosed to black in places! This pic is actually early days - it is nowhere near this color now!

Oh - here it is on belt - still tho not showing its color change! ...

All but forgot too - ''Boeshield'' does work very well as a protectant - like a wax treatment - but, gotta remember to reproof piece often enough!

    P95Carry

See now...I don't think there is a thing wrong with the way those holsters look.
Sometimes in summer I wear a shoulder rig just under an oversize T~Shirt...right under the ol' armpit. The leather does take a bit of a visual beating. But, nobody usually sees it but me...which is the whole idea behind concealed carry

I usually carry my vintage blue SIG in that sweaty location & I just keep it waxed. So far...I've not had any adverse reactions between the leather & the firearm. I do not have really acid sweat though.
Some folks can rust a blued gun just by touching it.

I'm one of the folks who pits some stainless. Leather doesn't live with me for long either. It's plastic pretty much or bust.

I put my carry guns through hell. The only thing that keeps me sane is the Midway "anti-rust" stuff in an aerosol can - with it, I can go six weeks in 100 degree weather without rusting a gun.

I eat through Sig's parkerizing finish like Illinois roads through a 1973 Toyota.

Again, the way to go is one of the new finishes and kydex. Your gear will look new all the time. Sweat all you want.

In the dog days I don't use leather holsters at all any more. I don't like what the moisture does to the leather - OR what the dye leaching from the leather can do to my clothes.

Missouri gets hot AND humid - so after years of trial and error I've decided it's stainless all the way for me. I'll carry either the Seecamp DA Detonics .45 with a clipdraw - or the SWT Speed-Six .44 Spl in a Desantis nylon IWB (as well as the Seecamp .32 in an Uncle Mike's pocket holster, of course). I've had all three literally dripping with sweat - but after many years have yet to encounter any corrosion problems.

Religious use of CLP hasn't hurt any either.
