What if the handgun had been a 357 Magnum (oooh, a Magnum!!!) or a 45 ACP (BIGGER than what the cops carry!!).

Can't have a story free of yellow journalism, now can we?
I, for one, wanted to know. How is it yellow, because they said it was the same as the police used? It makes him not look like a gun nut.

Lawyer: Why do carry a .40 S&W Remington Golden Sabre ammunition?
Victim: If its good enough for the police to protect us and themselves with, its good enough for me.

Makes it more defensible as far as I'm concerned.

    Thanks for making my point.

By logical inference, anyone who does not use the same ammo the PD uses or uses a firearm in a larger caliber is a gun nut bloodthirsty killer.

That is the yellow journalism aspect of it.

What if a guy breaks into my house and I stop him with an M1 rifle? What does that make me?

Sounds like a good out come. The Pastor did what he had to do nothing more and nothing less.

The way I am reading the article, the mention of the caliber of the pastor's gun was part of the police officer's quote, so it wasn't yellow journalism to include all of the quote. This reporter seems to have just reported the facts and doesn't seem to have inserted any editorial nonsense into it. I think the shooter's being a pastor, with one of the youthful charges needing to be defended, gives him extra protection against being painted as a bad guy. It would be interesting to see a newspaper try to paint him in a bad light.

An accurate answer to that question would depend on if you shot him with it or clubbed him with it.

Good! He protected those who needed protection and shot one of those who really, really needed shooting. Too bad the stand is closed and the youth group will no longer have that as a source of fund. While understandable, it seem way too much like giving in when faced with evil.

You'd have some questions to answer and likely made to look like a nut outside of Muskogee as that is the home of the Cherokee tribe and knives used in self defense is common. (Just take it off your rifle, LOL).

The mention of the caliber being the same as what police used is based upon some training courses taught at Oklahoma's CLEET (the law enforcement training agency) for PR officers. It was taught to described a caliber as one standard to law enforcement to assist in preventing the legal attacks done in other states.

    "Johnny Teehee? Wow, there's a name I'm glad I don't have."

Pete....and since that is a very proud Cherokee name with a fine outstanding family history, I will not lower myself to speak the thoughts I had over your insult to his family and clan.

I am the Sound Man at our Church of God. My gun of choice is a Smith & Wesson M&P 40, loaded with 16 Golden Sabers. My BUG is a Ruger SP101 357 magnum with 5 Golden Sabers. And yes, to protect our flock, I would do the same as this Youth Pastor. This is a perfect example of why the law should agree with carry in Church. And I know it did not happen "in Church". It is a "Church Function". Most of our Church Brethren would be appalled to know we pack in Church.

One would hope they'd also have the good manners to say "thank you" in the event it saved their lives, though that's hard to predict. You might well just get righteous indignation instead. So be it. You're protected and better off. So are they, though they've not thought that through.
