    Traveling Worries

Hello, itís been awhile...I will be traveling from Illinois to Florida for the holiday. I recently got my Florida and Utah Non-resident license. I want to make sure I will not be breaking any laws by carrying it on my person while driving through: Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia and my destination Florida. I will stop in a few states to fill up for gas, use the restroom and eat. I have looked and read through numerous sites such as packing.org and Handgun laws but since I have never carried before I want to be %100 on what I can and cannot do.

    Check out http://www.handgunlaw.us/

Do you have your IL permit? Oh wait, silly me! Ok, you've got FL and UT. Looks like IL is the only state where you'll have any problems, but have a look through http://www.handgunlaw.us/documents/USRVCarCarry.pdf to be sure. Print yourself a copy of your carry map from Handgunlaw.us as well.

No problem in KY. I'm pretty sure you're OK in IN and TN, too. Not sure about GA.

BTW- I lived in Illinois for a (much too) long time- I feel your pain.

I couldn't help but notice you did not put the Illinois Reciprocity map on your post.

Oh, yeah, that's right. What did someone call it? The Illinois Socialist Republic?

    Possibly non-resident CCW?
Why is it that you always find things at the last place you looked?

If I'm not wrong you must consider that:
Florida resident CCW is not exactly the same as a Florida non-resident CCW.

Some good news, I believe that S.C. is in the process of passing a reciprocity law.

I think if you live in Illinois, you're pretty much doomed no matter what.

On packing.org is says that Ky does not offer non-resident permits. Also, many people who live in illinois have non-resident permits from either Florida or Utah. If you need further information about taking the non-resident class you can pm and I will give you all the necessary information.

The difference is that two states with reciprocity will honor each other's licenses and that's it.

A state that honors all licenses (such as Indiana) will let you carry there with your home state's license even if your home state does not have a reciprocity agreement with Indiana.

Such is the situation between Ohio and Indiana. Indiana honors all concealed handgun licenses regardless of state of issue. Ohio only honors the licenses from states with which our Attorney General has signed reciprocity agreements. Indiana is not one of them, yet, so we can carry concealed in Indiana, but Hoosiers cannot do so here unless they have a non-resident license from some place were Ohio does have reciprocity (such as Florida).
