A buddy got his in 8 weeks. Mine went better than 14 weeks. Our FFL's permit was over 16 weeks.

    YMMV

    That is pushing it.

    Might not hurt to call.
Better yet, get your instructor to call.

Our have been anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks.

Instead of a permit, I got an unreadable fingerprint letter on day 59 I believe (I also did my class in April). A guy at work took the class a week before me, and he has heard nothing.

Interestingly enough...my buddy that took 8 wks and I both took our CHL class from Hotguns' group. We mailed them 1 week apart. I sent a money order and he sent a personal check.

Our FFL mailed his three weeks earlier than I mailed mine... His was issued the day after mine. ????

A state LEO here said that there are literally two ladies processing permit apps. Then...ya gotta get responses from your police chief (if you live in an incorporated area) and the county sheriff.

The only reasons I can see for the disparity between mine and the 8 week issue is that my buddy and his wife recently adopted a child...so his FBI check was recent...or my police chief "pocket vetos" all the permits. Of course, our FFL had just renewed his license with BATF...complete with prints...

We all have squeaky clean records.

    Who knows????

Thanks - I guess I'll just be patient. I was told the State Police discourage people from checking on the status of their packets.

I've been concerned about the fingerprint check, because I've got a scar that runs across the ridge detail on my thumb.

However, Ive had background checks for government jobs, and it hasn't been a problem yet. But who knows, Murphy's Law has a way of tracking me down.

Our instructor repeatedly said to not contact them on the status. I reluctantly e-mailed them this week after I got re-fingerprinted to make sure my new cards made it from the fingerprint people at state police to the CHL office. Have yet to get a response.

There are just two woman that do the permit process and business has really been picking up. They also have the additional duty of making sure that the info on the State Police website is current. Since we have some new provisions going into effect on July 1 st, I'm sure that they have more than they can chew on. Add that to the fact that if one of them takes vacation, sick leave ,training or whatever it really makes it tough for the other. Plus, they are the ones that do the paperwork for new instructors and we just added 4 more to our list for our club.

Sometimes the permits take as little as 2 weeks...or thats the fastest I've heard of anyways. Other times it takes much longer depending on the circumstances.

One thing that does make the process longer is personal checks. That'll add at least two weeks onto the turnaround time. I usually recommend money orders to reduce the time. Keep in mind that the local CLEO has up to 30 days to yea or nay it, so that could be a factor also.

And...the others are right about calling. If a lot of people call, they get the same two woman and it just slows the whole process up...the more time they spend on the phone the less time they have to work.

Someone on my Arkansas Shooters Board told me it takes pretty much the entire 120 days. So, I guess I'm looking at the middle of August. Poop.

The two gentlemen who did our class (one of which is a State Trooper), said there are actually 5 people in the department working on these. They have petitioned Gov. Bebee for a 6th but no word yet on funding for another FTE.
I called just to make sure they received my packet. They told me the best way to know was watching my bank account. I see the check has now cleared but when I check their web site, for the progress, it hasn't been updated. I am curious whether anyone ever updates if or if so, how often?
