"Horrible misunderstanding"? Wish they had elaborated on that. Wonder if he really tried to force his way into the house?
It would take some pretty dire circumstances for me to be beating on strangers front doors at 10:15 PM.
It sounds like what went wrong was the shooter got scared.

If it is not in the US Constitution then the Federal Government should not be doing it.
"Carrying a gun is a social responsibility."
This is a very sad thing no matter what the details.

Something is fishy about this, some detail is left out. It still is a horrible situation.

Pretty sketchy article to say the least. On it's surface sure looks like a senseless tragedy.
Just my opinion based on the sketchy report, but you really can't be trying to force your way into someones house. Especially at 10:00 at night. Regardless of the circumstances and even if going for help. Forcing your way in after someone answers the door is a good way to get shot.

"The gun is the great equalizer... For it is the gun, that allows the meek to repel the monsters; Whom are bigger, stronger and without conscience, prey on those who without one, would surely perish."
Anytime a life is taken - it is a tragic situation, no matter the details.
"Gun Free Zones" is where only criminals carry guns.
There was no misunderstanding. A stranger tried to force his way into someone's home. Stranger was stopped by the appropriate use of force. The reasons why said stranger tried to force his way in are, frankly, irrelevant.
What the paper will most likely never report is the Blood Alcohol , and drug trace levels of this supposed " Victom" who was beating on the door. Mr thinks the most innocent explanation is a " chemicaly enhanced " and PO'd stuck fella bit off more than he can chew at that house.
Make sure you get full value out of today , Do something worthwhile, because what you do today will cost you one day off the rest of your life .

Criminals are looking for victims, not opponents.
Not much info there. Like to hear the follow up. Why would he try to force his way in the door? Sounds kinda funny to me.
I have changed your thread title to add the location. This will help other members that may search for this info before posting their own thread and will help prevent duplicate threads running on this topic.

Why do lots of people do stupid things?
I could not care less why someone I do not know is banging on my door and trying to force it open. Cops get called. And if the intruder makes it past the threshold before the cops get to him, he won't make it past the end of the foyer. I'll see to that.
I tend to agree. I was thinking about what I'd do if a stranger forced his way into my house. I believe I'd do the same thing the home owner did - protect himself. He had no idea who this was, what his intentions were, or how many there were.
Then having said that, the article seemed very preliminary and as more is learned, we may find out what actually happened.
