Traveling In Another State w/o License

I am heading to Tulsa on SW Airlines with my 2 boys then renting a car to drive to Arkansas to fish for 3 days. I have been putting off getting my CCL in Texas for years but normally carry in my car when I travel, anyway. I am thinking of UPS'ing my Colt in a Safepacker to a UPS store in Tulsa then picking it up and putting it in my rent car for the 5 hour drive to the White River. What am I not thinking of? Should I or shouldn't I? I hate being on the road with my 2 boys and being unarmed!:embarassed:

I strongly suggest you visit the Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation's homepage and find out if what you want to do is legal.

I highly suspect that it is not.

If no CCW reciprocity then carry will be no go.

Transportation in car however, with gun in locked box and ammo separate is usually OK to get from A thru B. If you followed that route in car then it seems you could take your gun in checked baggage and declare it - thus saving shipping.

Still worth checking the relevant state laws.

due to my having to travel in OK quite often, and Okies correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think OK has peaceable journey laws allowing you to carry a handgun if you're traveling, you'd need a recognized CCW permit, so you would be violating the law in OK......

First, you can only ship a firearm to an FFL across state lines.

Second, OK has no peacable journey laws. You have to have a permit to carry loaded in a car. You can keep it unloaded in the car.

Third, AR has no peaceable journey laws. Not sure about carrying unloaded there.

Federal transport laws don't apply since you are not legal to carry in both your origin and destination.

Take a knife in your checked luggage and a cell phone as carry-on. Have a safe trip!:urla9ub:

Actually, Arkansas DOES have a peaceable journey exception.

Section 5-73-120 of the Arkansas Code states in part:

(c) It is a defense to a prosecution under this section that at the time of the act of carrying:

(4) The person is carrying a weapon when upon a journey;

Incorrect. Shipping or mailing a firearm to yourself c/o someone else in a different state is perfectly legal.

In any case, the OP is flying to Tulsa. Why not simply declare the handgun in lugagge?
