    Possible retraction

Choochboost on mp-pistol.com posted this in response to a similar thread that I started there.

You are correct. That sign should have been removed. We have contacted
the Management team at the Midtown Memphis Home Depot to have them
    remove the sign immediately.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

The Home Depot does not prohibit anyone who is legally permitted to
carry firearms from entering our stores, provided the firearms are
carried in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

If you would like to speak with a Customer Care professional, please
call us at 1-800-553-3199 (USA) or 1-800-668-2266 (Canada). We would
like to provide you a ticket number as a record of your concern. Your
    number is [xxxxxxx].

I called HD customer service again. This time the gentleman on the other end knew exactly where to look (last call I was put on hold 5 times while she "searched the data base") and he quoted almost verbatim this email.
He said he would call the store manager and tell him the policy. He also stated that no local manager is allowed to change this policy.
This was from the same customer service department that I talked to earlier. Go Figure!

I'll wait to see if the sign comes down before I retract my recommendation for the Do not patronize list.

I was in Home Depot half an hour ago.

Here's how it is in Nashville, TN.

I check the door for all postings, they don't have anything pertaining to handguns.

I enter store and immediately find two department managers, explain that I want to know if Handgun Carry Permits are honored or if the store doesn't allow legal handgun owners to carry.

Both say they 'think' it is fine and the store is definitely not posted.

They call the Store Manager, he answers that this store is not posted and HCPs are honored. He tells me he has a carry permit, asks if I have mine - smiles, shakes my hand and says I am absolutely fine. He says that there is no national policy against permits for Home Depot.

I think your store is misinformed.

Here in St. Louis I've have never seen it posted. Lowes is just starting to move here.

Pete if its not posted, why would you find someone to ask those questions? Even if you did not tell them you are carrying, they are going to know. If its not posted, its fine.

I know, but solely for the benefit of research for this thread I 'blew my cover' and asked. Maybe they were posted and in my search it didn't show?

Anyway, the Manager wasn't at all interested in my carry status, just asked if I had a permit - I'm assuming because he appreciated it and wanted to thoroughly encourage me. After we were done he walked me to the Pro Desk and told them to 'look after me' regarding my inquiry on color-coated chain-link. And let me tell you, they don't usually do that in Home Depot...

I didn't want it to sound like I was picking on you, because I'm not. Here in St. Louis when the law first pased, the media tried to make it sound like we were going to shoot each other. Well that never happened and the posted stores signs are starting to come down. I do not know about Nashville but here if I go into a posted store and if made, I'm still not breaking any laws unless they tell me to leave and I do not. I rarely see a sign in the stores anymore and I'm sure it will be like this everywhere soon. Soon there will more of us than them!!!!

Apologies to you if I came across that way. I wasn't at all offended and didn't take it personally. The webnets just make me sound like I'm indignant, IRL I'm a teddy bear.
It was and is a fair question, why would anyone in their right mind press the issue? If it isn't posted why ask? They might just decide to 'start posting'.
But I'm not the same average as the next average guy, I'm not the sort to sit around 'wondering why' for too long. It could've blew up in my face and they escorted me out and the next day I get a lawyer letter, but in my travels on this mudball I have found that most times when you ask you gain something, even if it wasn't what you expected.

    Thanks.

Unless it is a new policy our HD is not posted I was there last week end like most weekends. Our HD was here first and our Lowes came in about a year ago. I drive past Lowes to go to HD because I know where things are in HD but if they were ever to post a 30.06 I would just bite the bullit and learn Lowes stock.

Does it really matter what their policy is?
All they could do is ask you to leave anyway, right?
FWIW, I've always had very good experiences in HD.

Was in Home Depot Saturday July 7th. The sign was gone. If the one by Eastwood Mall was the store.....About 3 years ago the same thing happened at that store, and Home Depot made the local manager remove the sign. It pays to speak up! Great job Luvmy40

Not in Ohio. If a business is posted it is a crime to carry.
I know "Concealed means concealed" but it isn't worth the consequences. I won't take the chance of losing my CCW.

Stopped by the store (Austintown) today and the sign was still up!

I called CS again. This time he called the store manager and asked why the sign was still up. The mgr. said that it was put up by "corporate" he would not remove it until officially told to by "corporate"
The CS rep. reviewed the policy and agreed that customers carrying within the law was OK.
He said he would look into this further.
We came to the conclusion that the wording of the sign may be a factor as it is the "official" sign required by Ohio revised code blah, blah, blah for the state mandated "No Carry Zones"(state owned/public buildings and courthouses) which contains the phrase "Unless otherwise authorized by law". This "authorization" appears to mean only on duty LEO.
There have been debates as to whether the wording does mean CCW holders are OK when this specific sign is posted by a private business. I don't know if there has been any clear answer for this from the state or not.

I will wait a few days and call again to see where this is going.

Print this out and take it to your local Home Depots.

After some runaround by the manager I made several calls and finally got a district manager to take charge of the situation.
    The sign came down!
    Now I'm a happy camper
