    Arkansas Reciprocity Law taking effect

The Arkansas State Police office in charge of arkansas chl's told me that senate bill 268 that was signed by Governor Mike Beebe will take effect on the 1st of AUG. It makes the following change:

    http://www.arkleg.state.ar.us/ftproo...blic/SB268.pdf

    (a) Any person in possession of a valid license issued by another state to carry a concealed handgun shall be entitled to the privileges and subject to the restrictions prescribed by Arkansas concealed handgun law, ( 5-73-301 et seq.), provided that the state that issued the license recognizes concealed handgun licenses issued under 5-73-301 et seq.
What does this change? For one thing there has been a debate on whether they will accept a permit from arkansawyers living in the state possessing a permit from another state, such as florida or utah. It will be a moot issue now. Secondly from what I understand there are states that recognize arkansas permits and arkansas does not recognize theirs. That will change now, but I don't know what states they are. They said their website will show it on the 1st of aug.

Well that ought to help you guys out with reciprocity. Once it is done then you'll have to see which states will recognize Arkansas permits that don't so long as Arkansas recognizes their permits. Add to the list.

Just goes to show how much out of touch I've been lately. I live in Arkansas and wasn't aware of that change. Good news, anyway!

I wish Nevada would follow suit. :( The Nevada Chiefs and Sheriffs' Association + Bernie Anderson are a constant barrier.

Their stubborness cost NV permit holders Colorado recognition.

Thank goodness visitors still have the right to open carry here.

SB237 goes into effect in NV on October 1 allowing for NV to honor other states' permits. The list of states has yet to be published, but we should know soon enough.

It's always good news when a state recognizes the rights of people from other states to self protection.

Good for Arkansas. Good for lots of others as well who will be able to carry in Arkansas.

Several changes will take effect with the new amendments to the CHL law.

One will be reciprocity. It basically states that ANY state that will recognize the AR permit will be recognized by AR. While this list is by no means all inclusive, here is the short list...

    AK,AZ,UT,ID,MT,SD,MN,KS,OK,TX,MO,LA,MS,TN,KY,VA,NC ,SC,FL,VT,
    MI,IN and CO.

I understand that more states are being "negotiated". I have been told that the Arkansas State Police will update their website by the end of the month to include all states that the AR permit is good in.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Also, the length of the permit goes from 4 years to 5 years.

Starting Dec.31st , all new permits will be issued with the DL photo on them. After that date, people seeking the permit will also have to sign a waiver that allows the ASP to receive a DL photo from the DMV.

Certain allowances have been made for military personnel stationed in AR. It makes the permit process much easier for them.
I would rather stand against the cannons of the wicked than against the prayers of the righteous.

I forgot about the time extension, she mentioned it on the phone.

Maybe Arkansas will add a ton of new states and I will switch to an AR permit. Doubt that will happen though.

That's great news. I lost Arkansas when I changed from Florida to a Georgia licence. If I'm correct Georgia will honor the licence of any state that honors the Georgia licence.

    YAY!!!

Now when I go visit the girlfriends family I can carry, and I didn't have to go through the hassle of getting a Utah for Florida permit. Nice.

As an Arkansas CHL holder, I am very happy with this news! I wish they hadnt killed the "stand your ground" bill, but this is at least a step in the right direction.
