I'm NOT racist, but I do discriminate...........
I don't abide: thieves, muggers, robbers, rapists, murderers...etc....
to quote John Wayne in 'Big Jake'....."I don't care what color they are..."
As for minorities, I think they harm their cause by some of their leadership's antics. Look at Chas. Rangell & Jesse Jackson pushing for 'slave reparations'.....I will even agree with them up to one point.....Find me ONE LIVING person who used to be a slave before emancipation & I'll happily pay him/her reparations.(odds are pretty slim, since slavery was abolished 140 years ago!)
I also think hyphened-Americans aren't. You are either American or not. No Mexican-Americans, no Hispanic- Americans, no Asian-Americans, no African-Americans, No European-Americans...etc...All hyphens do is divide groups. I think, like TR that they are 'weasel words'.
"One of our defects as a nation is a tendency to use what have been called "weasel words." When a weasel sucks eggs the meat is sucked out of the egg. If you use a "weasel word" after another there is nothing left of the other."-Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919), speech, May 31, 1916, St. Louis, MO
Theodore Roosevelt on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN
"In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."
