    Hey Barrel,

Congratulations! I got mine in June and have been carrying ever since. Do you have a firearm in mind that you want? I would recommend a Glock 19 as this has been a great firearm for me. Not to big but not to small either. I use it for CC and for HD. Have fun this weekend. Let us know what you get.

Long wait David but good news indeed.

XD could suit very well but also seems in recent months the M&P has been getting good reviews.

the M&P isn't bad, but hard to gauge the trigger reset on it, the XD is a lot more defined. I purchased the XD for the reason of how well defined it is + Reliability + Guide Rod + 3m Under Water rated lol.

Best thing is to get to a range that rents and try them all. The XD is a fine weapon and so is the glock. I rented an M&P but I didn't like the trigger. But definately try before you buy if you can.

Try as many as you can. Glocks are very popular. I had a Glock and got rid of it for an XD. I much prefer the XD because of the additional grip safety. IMO they shoot about equally.

Congratulations, I cannot believe your restraint. I had my pistol and was still finalizing my holster when my permit arrived. Welcome to the ranks of those who understand the responsibility of a citizenry that has the right to be armed.

Now that you have proven you are responsible enough to carry a firearm, have you exercised your other rights lately, like writing to your representatives?
But if you are authorized to carry a weapon, and you walk outside without it, just take a deep breath, and say this to yourself...

    on the permit...
Is that a permit for the pistol?...or a carry permit?

The OP lives in New York State. You need a permit just to buy and own the gun.
The CCW is a whole other process. My Mom lives in NYS and wishes she could get firearms as easily as I do in PA. Just walk in and walk out with your gun, after 10 minute background check of course.
