Question Leaving carry gun in car while at work / Nevada

    Hi Guys,

Any info on leaving the carry gun (safety box) inside the my vehicle in the employee parking lot while at work. (one of those Las Vegas casinos)
I can't have it on me, I work in a very tight space- I would be made in minutes.

What the law says about it anybody knows? Where can I check it?
Kinda afraid you know gun gets stolen, then used in a crime .....

    Any help, opinion appreciated,

But that doesn't mean I plan to leave it home....

    Agree with Fed

I'd agree with the Fed's posting that you don't have any Nevada legal problem with leaving a handgun locked in your car, assuming you have a Nevada CCW permit. The casino that owns the parking lot might have an employee policy covering this, however. You should check your employee manual.

As for your gun being stolen from the car and used in a crime - if the car was locked and you were not negligent, what law would you have violated? I would report any such theft to the police very promptly, of course.

    You could always.....

Park in one casino lot and walk over to your place of employment. I know several people who that for reasons other than CCW.

Of course, given the consolidation in the Vegas casino industry, make certain you don't park in another of the company's properties!

Vegas has been violent. I'm not sure if your new or not but Las Vegas leads the nation for auto thefts in a metropolitan area. IIRC the number was somewhere around 25,000 in 2006. This is why I refuse to leave ANYTHING in my vehicle, which has already been broken into once. If they steal your vehicle, that safe isn't going to do jack against someone with some tools and time. I understand it's probably better to have it in your car than nothing at all, but there are definately risks involved. I would rather conceal and take my chances on employment, but that's just me.

    Legally, you are clear.

As far as company policy goes you just have to decide what means more to you. Your job or your ability to defend yourself in a life threatening situation.

Get the safe, but if possible, find a unique place to hide it. In our Mini Cooper, the panel in the back (to chance tail lights) easily came out and the safe could be secured inside...impossible to find. In our Nissan Pathfinder, the back seat bottom panel lifts 'forward'...not easily noticed...great hiding place! If either car were taken or broken into...the safe stays hidden and your weapon secure!

Get a good pair of handcuffs from a police supply store and simply handcuff the gun to the seat mount. A smash and dash crook won't take the time to get it.

Repeat after me "I was looking for a job when I found this one." The worst that can happen is you get fired, beats the hell out of being fired on.
