Think I was just "sized up"

Went to a Drs' appt just now. It's the foot Dr.,so needless to say,I'm having walking issues....I get out of my car and start limping toward the office.Just then a truck pulls out of a space, and a youngish woman says"excuse me",and asks for directions.I notice a guy slouched in the passenger seat w/ his head down under a ball cap,not looking at me w/ his hand on the door handle. As I'm giving directions I don't turn away from them and gesture,I just tell them which way to go.The whole time I'm looking at them.I say "you want to write these down, buddy."he then looks at me and says"no"...then the woman says thanks and they speed off out of the parking lot....in the opposite direction I just told them to go.SOOO either they're lost right now or they're picking another victum.....when I was in the office I looked out the window and didn't see the truck, and it wasn't there when I left.....had me wondering for sure.
This office is right off the highway and there's a gas station right next to the office....why wouldn't they ask at the gas station?
I going out in a little while and I think I may take another drive by and see if they're there, and if so call the cops.
I probably should've gotten ther plate #,but they took off too fast.
oh yeah and I did have my "little guy"(as my wife calls my 642),w/ me.

Sounds fishy Tony - probably a very much used approach.

Good move to keep eyes on them - probably that and your keen alertness phased them - so, time to go look at other potential 'customers".

Very alert Tony. May of been nothing but it sure didn't seem right. By the way, glad you explained what your "little guy" was so we didn't get the wrong idea.

Good thinking, good 'eye contact', good responses, good follow through...

I believe your instincts are right on the mark. Your confidence in the "little guy" certainly helped.

You may want to consider calling the cops and reporting the incident anyway. It may not be much to go on, but it may help with something.

Since they never took any hostile action against you, we'll never know their intent.

However, you just showed yourself, that your "spidey sense" is working and scanning the horizon for any "potential" threats!

I've had a version of this pulled on me while doing service calls at night. They were probley sizing you up as a protential target. I bet the guy wouldhave jumped you if you had turned your back on them. These kind of people are cowards and want to take you by supprise. It seems that your instincts pretty good.

Glad things worked out for you.
    One piece of advice though.
If you get a bad feeling about a situation then Learn How To Quickly Brush People Off.
Do not "stick around" and play their game with them.
It is a very difficult thing for kind, helpful, and good~hearted people to learn when and how NOT to be helpful.
    Streetwise scumbags prey on that.
They know that most people will stop and be distracted by something that they have pre-planned for you that is when you are vulnerable.
In this instance...you were semi~incapacitated and so probably would have had a bit of trouble high tailing it out of there - so you did OK considering your unique situation.

TonyB: I got "sized up" also today, but it was at BurgerKing.

Its a great thing, this CCW, it sure makes us much more aware of whats around us. Good advice about keeping your eyes on them, and not pointing and looking down the street.

Exactly correct. The 642 helped YOUR confidence, but I doubt they'd have tried anything even were you not armed. Scum like this want a totally unsuspecting victim. Simple self awareness is often enough to deter an attack. That's why Condition Yellow is so important.
