What happens if I move to IL/WI???

I live in Oklahoma, have a CC permit and have purchased 2 handguns since I have been here. I know if i move back to IL or WI i can't carry, but will they have record of my handgun purchases? I don't want someone showing up one day to pick up my guns. How can I avoid any problems, is there a way to hide the fact I own them, can I say they were sold? I'm not looking to break the law, I've just heard some crazy stuff about handguns in these states and I would like to keep mine for home protection at the least!

My best advice---- don't move to a state like that. Plenty of good jobs in non-communist states.

You'll have to get a FOID card in IL or you're in violation of the law. I don't know what the rules are in WI, but in IL if you don't admit to having them you are in violation of the law.

SleepingZ has it right though, just avoid those states.

For IL you will need to get a FOID card once you establish residency. You can get the application here: http://www.isp.state.il.us/media/doc...s.cfm?DocID=38
If you move to IL after Jan 1 the price of the FOID card will be $10 for 10 yrs. Currently it is $5 for 5 yrs.
Other than the FOID card you won't need to do anything else. The state of IL does not have gun registration nor are there restrictions on what you can own.
However, there are some cities in IL that have restrictions on firearms. These are in the Chicagoland area. You can review the list of cities at http://www.isp.state.il.us/foid/ordinances.cfm . If you aren't moving to one of the listed locales then the rest of the state is pretty firearm friendly. Downside is no CCW and not likely to be since the legislature and executive branches are controlled by Chicagoland.

I wish not moving there was an option. All my other guns have never been registered, they were handed down through the family and most likely bought prior to all this BS. I had a FOID card at one time in IL, needed it just to get a hunting license and to buy ammo. What a load of crap!

If you move to IL or WI, knowing ahead of time their gun laws...you have no room to complain...enjoy your stay!

Nope, don't need a FOID to get a hunting license in IL.

I strongly suggest that you contact the Attorney General's offices for Illinois & Wisconsin and ask for specific guidance on what you need to do to be legal with your firearms.

Keep a written record of all correspondence to include names, dates and times.

Don't rely on an internet forum for legal advice. We have forum members who are practicing attorneys. They'll say the same thing.

Here is the ISP webpage which may answer a lot of your questions: http://www.isp.state.il.us/foid/
BTW, note my user name, I spent quite a few years fielding questions from the public on these very issues. I'd get calls almost daily.

IIRC, Wisconsin has no required registration, there is a 2 day? waiting period on handguns, and pro CCW laws have almost been passed almost every year of the last 3 years, but the Governor keeps vetoing them out.

WI is more gun friendly that IL in my opinion.

Yes, there is a 48hr waiting period to pick up a handgun in WI. Longarms are cash and carry. No registrations, no provision for civilian concealed carry.

Gov. needs to get out of the state. Ever since he got in the state has been going down the tubes.

If you move to WI, bring your guns and have fun, no cards needed. Other than not being able to carry, we can have full auto and suppressers (with permit ).

Hundreds of indoor and outdoor ranges and clubs. Madison is the only "gun hater" city.

Email me when you get into town and we'll pop a few.

Open carry is legal in Wi pretty much everywhere, just uncommon. If you choose to go that route, be prepared to be hassled by the local pd, but it is legal.
