Fears that schools will be the target of the next terrorist attack on the United States have been expressed by two senior officials in Hampton.
The prediction was made by Hampton City Schools Superintendent Patrick Russo and Police Chief Chuck Jordan to parents last week at a public forum on youth and gangs at Hampton Roads Convention Center.
Russo said schools had become safer places but warned that they were potential magnets to terrorists.
"All the statistics show that. There is a downward trend on youth violence in schools, but we know there is a threat out there."
Schools in Hampton and throughout the region are not specific targets, but schools in general have concerned security experts.
Russo said he feared terrorists would attempt to repeat in America the kind of attack Chechen separatists carried out at a school in Beslan in Russia in September 2004 when more than 1,000 adults and children were held hostage. The siege ended in the deaths of 331 of the hostages. "The next terrorist attack, and there will be another one, the most likely target will be one of our schools," he said.
Earlier this year, Hampton school officials created a guide to possible crises.A $250,000 grant from the U.S. Education Department helped the school division develop a crisis management plan.Jordan cited attacks on schools in Israel, where he said strong security measures had been brought in to protect students.
"Our purpose is to get them there safe, get them home safe and make sure that they're educated in between that time."

It is good that someone finally gets it.
I will say that I figure on the college end with Radical Religious sects Seminaries are a pretty legitimate target. I am in one this moment with a .40 on my hip.

If they "get it" then they would do away with the GFSZ B.S. and allow permit holders to carry accordingly. Tell the crying ninnies if they don't see it--it isn't a problem (like they do with everything else).

So does Dallas, TX. Their Sherriff and Police Chief have upped roll-out practice for the Tac Team to twice/year to once/month, with an emphasis on schools, I heard.

If the guy is trying to steer people to Israeli type security measures, then he does get it.
They have armed parents patroling the schools.

Crisis management plan
If their "Crisis Management Plan' includes aggressive counterattack and armed defense, it'll probably work. If not......

What do you want to bet the policy does NOT include scattering the kids like marble?

Do you mean, they'll do a 'lockdown'? No doubt. We really have to get the non-warriors out of the loop on this stuff. If the SHTF, they are the WORST people to have in control.
Anti-gunners seem to believe that if we just pass enough laws, we can have utopia. Unfortunately, utopia is NOT one of our choices.
