    Made a guy today.

I am in the gun store looking to spend some of my wifes money.
I see a guy with a fanny pack, this thing sticks out about 6" from his body. I know that he was packing because of the large belt and how it was digging into his waste. I wanted to tell him about a different fannypack (Tommy`s) but he looked so happy I just kept to myself.

No knock on fannypacks, as I use one too. But the design that I use is quite flat. An oversized t-shirt, or button down shirt and you can`t see it.

Just nitpicking! What's with it today, second time in 5-min that I've seen incorrect usage of waist/waste! and both opposite usages. weird.

The owner and manager of a liquor store where I sometimes stop to pick up a cold six always has his fanny pack on and is very obvious to me. I doubt 99% of his customers pay any attention.

    Yeah, that's digging deeply.

I've never found the fanny packs to be that discreet. Not too many folks seem to wear them, and they draw the eye. Bad combination, IMO. IWB (or OWB in a pinch) with a suitable cover garment works best for me. When covering garments aren't an option, pocket carry's the ticket. But that's just me.

It is interesting to go people-watching now and then, to specifically try to pick out the carriers. It's hard, but the ones that don't carry it well are often easy to spot. Generally, though, a decent cover garment and excellent holster result in a gun that doesn't print, and those are tough to see. Particularly with someone who doesn't fidget or have to worry about the gun's position/balance (due to a bad holster/belt choice).

I have a fanny pack and never used it. I just wander if the non firearm crowd even realizes what some of us are using it for? I really think that it is only the gun crowd that will pick up on it and they don't bother me anyway.

That's pretty much it in a nutshell. Since I've started carrying my Glock, I can tell it prints a lot more than my 1911 but I figure the folks that might actually be able to tell the difference between a gun printing and a cellphone are either fellow carriers or possibly LEOs - since I'm legal I don't worry about either one.

I really like the concept of the fanny pack, lots of neat compartments for ccw permit, ID, key fobs, place for flash-lights, spare mag or ammo, and of course the gun. Problem is, when you get all of your neat stuff in there, it sticks out like you are wearing a cement block on your side. The first time I was going to wear mine we got out of the vehicle, and my 14 yo son starts laughing at me, I was to embarrassed to continue. Yea they are easy to spot, but who's going to argue with someone carrying a gun!

At the 2007 GRPC it was quite a riot. At least a dozen guys carrying in fanny packs. The fanny's were pulling down quite a bit, something heavier than a big camera in those small packs. Plus the fact that they were carrying exposed mag holders.

Why conceal the gun if you're going to expose the mags?

I've been carrying my M360 in one for years in the summer. And I'm too old to care what other people think.
