    Texas/California carry

Hello, I have a TX CCW and it's a one way street with California apparantly. I might be going there for some length on buisness and would like to be able to carry. Is there a way I could get a licence to carry in California?

California does not issue non-res CCWs, and honors no others.
For information on getting your CCW License in California please visit CalCCW.

    As a non-resident...

One CAN get a CA CCW if you have certain skills...

    1. Walk on water...
    2. Change water into wine...
    3. Raise the dead...

    ...you get the idea!

I recommend staying far away from California. I just left there, and hope I never have to go back. Naturally there are nice parts - like when you get really close to Oregon or Nevada. For the most part though, it is an awful place.

Unless you HAVE to go to Cali, avoid it. If you have to go, forget the gun and knife and just carry some potent pepper spray, don't stay out after 22:00, and catch the closest flight out of there. My uncle keeps wanting me to visit him Sacramento, I offer to pay for his plane ticket for him to come to Texas just because I don't want to go there.

Ironically, some CA knife laws are more reasonable those of Texas.

Just came back from LA I carried a Spyderco civilian. I got stuck in an elevator for 2 1/2 hours with ten people. It sucked really bad. All that aside you can carry any size folder in Cali. There are no blade length restrictions for folders.

to correct some of the misinformation in this thread....

CA law does have provisions for non-resident permits issued under the same guidelines as any other permit. Meaning you have give a "good-cause statement" during your interview. However, it's my understand that very few (quite possibly none) have ever been issued.

If you have to travel to CA often, and you're traveling to a county that issues relatively easily (Orange County, or most of the rural counties) it may be worth your while to contact the sheriff's office and simply ask. The worst they can say is "no."

Most of Cali is pretty conservative... its when you get to LA and San Fran. But as cities tend to do, they ruin it for the rest of the state *cough*cough* Chicago & New York City *cough*cough*

Cough... Philadelphia sure is trying. Here's an idea. Philadelphia, NJ. Can't we just cut that bottom corner off? No offense to people living in Philly. My family is from Philly too. I just don't like there liberal views.

No joy on the CCW for you but you can carry a folding pocket knife and pepper spray. If you want some home protection whether at a private residence or hotel you may bring you handgun for that purpose just remember not to take the full cap mags.

Other than it's unfortunate gun laws California is a great place to visit so I hope you enjoy your trip! What part are your visiting?
