Atlanta zoo
Hi folks,
I am plannig a trip to Atlanta tomorrow and I was wondering on the law about carrying at the Atlanta zoo. I live in Tennesse. Is the zoo a government place or privately owned? Thanks for any information.

I'd say probably not a good idea since it is a public gathering place....as are the surrounding areas of Grant Park

My guess is there will be security at the gate, as is with most public gatherings. I wouldn't count on it.

The OP is about Georgia law so I have no opinion. I was curious about the zoo being a "no no". Is that based on FL law? I am always trying to learn (and hopefully stay out of trouble) and don't find zoo in 790.06 (12). Is it someplace else?

The last time I visited the Atlanta Zoo security at the gates were checking for knives, etc. Not allowed to carry inside.

The Zoo is in Grant Park, right? Grant park is a State Park, and State Parks are off limits for CCW.
The Zoo is a public gathering place (which is really a grey area in the laws) but I would not carry into the Zoo.

Atlanta should be worried more about water instead of guns. They're just about eliminated the former but will never be able to remove all of the latter.

"removing the latter (guns)" and "eliminating guns" sounds pretty much the same to me....
i.e. -I want to remove ants from my house, and I want to eliminate ants from my house.....same thing.
There isn't a reason to have a gun in the Zoo. Same reason you can't have one at a Braves game, or the Olympics. There is security there, and under State Law, you cannot have a firearm in Public gathering places. I didn't write the laws, I just abide by them.
On top of the fact that some crazy would go and pop and Elephant...

Any other places you think we don't need guns at? How about starting at your house - I don't think you need a gun there either.

So im guessing you cant go to Disney with a gun either then huh??
Wouldn't a movie theater be a public gathering place, but guns can be carried there?

I'm not too worried about what you think....if I was, I would have asked your opinion.
Please inform me on how me having a gun at my house has ANYTHING to do with having one at Zoo Atlanta?
Public vs. Private....

I am not familar with the laws in FL, but I know if you call Disney World and ask them if you can carry, they will tell you no. If you get caught with a weapon (firearm) they will throw you out.
Movie theathers seem like a public gathering place to me...again, it's a gray area in the law. If you are carrying concealed, nobody will know I guess, but you are taking a chance on breaking the law....I'd like to know about theaters.....
