    Got Made By a Hugger

I was singing in the choir last night at my synagogue. The lady to the left of me is a compulsive hugger. While we were standing and singing, she put her right arm around my waist and her hand fell directly on my Glock 23 (holstered IWB at 4-5 o'clock). It rested there for a couple of seconds, then withdrew. I wanted to turn to her and say "that's fine, just don't pull the trigger," but I kept my mouth shut until later.

After the service I asked her if she knew at the time that she was on my gun. She said yes, but is cool with it. My wife and I ate dinner at her house a few weeks ago and guns came up in conversation. She wants to have a gun for home protection but is unknowledgable about what's available; her husband is gun friendly but doesn't feel the need for a gun at home since he has lots of martial arts training and can take care of himself. I asked what happens if he's not around and he admitted that that's a good point (I should invite them to the range). During that conversation, I admitted to them that I carry concealed at all times that it's legal, even right then at their dining room table; they didn't have a problem with it.

So, I guess if I had to me made by someone in the congregation, I would prefer it be her, rather than one of the other hyper liberal antis who would start screaming. Of course, one of them wouldn't even recognize it as a gun in the first place.

It seems as though you handled it very well and things turned out pretty good because of it.

You are right, you should get your friends to the range. You very well may have converted two more to the enlightened side.

Yep, as I always say.....people that we get to go to the range and/or buy a gun for HD will become pro-gun voters. What a great means for us to defeat the anti-gunners agenda.

Due to the previous discussion, she expected to find it--I bet she was doing her version of a "press check"...

Not true, I don't. I'm just not a hugging type person.

Glad her hubby is good enough w/ martial arts to take both guns away from 2 home invaders & kick the bullets out of the air that the 3rd one shoots from across the living room.

I'd say you handled it well and it helped that you already had talked about guns and carrying with her.

Personally, I hate compulsive huggers. I don't like to be hugged by anyone other than my wife and kids. If you aren't one of them, I'd really rather just wave at you as a form of greeting. I'm not real big on physical contact with folks I am not related to....and even some of them (cousins) I'm not real fond of touching. Keeping them for touching the gun is only one reason I don't want to hug.

The Virginia Law says no carry in a house of worship when a religious meeting is being held, "without good and sufficient reason." We are all aware of occasional attacks on Jewish institutions by white supremacists, neo-Nazis and militant Islamists; to me, that's sufficient reason to carry. Many large synagogues hire armed security during their religious services; mine is too small to afford that so I choose to serve in that capacity, as a volunteer.
