Niagara Falls and New York Question

I was curious if someone could help me find out if it is acceptable to CC in Niagara Falls, NY as a visitor with a valid TN permit. I know that Kentucky and Ohio honor a TN permit, however, some states although they do not reciprocate or honor another states permit they will allow it for visitors?

The other issue is we may go into Canada. What the hell happens then. Can I even have an unloaded weapon locked up in the car? Or on my person?

    Thanks.

    Hunter.

    NY has no reciprocity

New York state does not recognize CCW permits from any other state. In fact I would be reluctant to even take an unloaded handgun into New York state, unless I were driving straight through without stopping and could rely upon the Federal law to cover me.

I would definitely not try to cross the Canadian border with a handgun, as it is illegal to have it in Canada without a special permit, obtained in advance.

One reason I doubt I will ever go see the falls, sadly - simply because there is no way I can maintain my right to remain armed.

As for crossing the border into Canada ........ with gun ........ as pogo mentions, forget it basically!

The falls are great.. it is crowded though, and the food there sucks! It took about a total of 3 hours total back and forth across the border for checkpoints.. those canadians have no sense of humor btw..

I'm not sure if they still do this, but I have left guns with the Canadians on the border a couple times then picked them up on my way out.

New York State does not honor or recognize any CCW permits from any other state. You may travel through New York State with a handgun as long as it is locked unloaded in a lock box in the trunk and you are legal to carry it where you came from and where you are going. Have any permits and paperwork, including a copy of the Federal Law, on your person to prove your legal should you get pulled over. There is now a 3 year mandatory prison term if your caught in this State carrying an unlicensed handgun. Most DA's in this State are willing to drop the gun charge in order to plea bargain a conviction if your a repeat criminal so at election time they can hold up their conviction rate. But they love to make an example of law abiding gunowners who accidently get caught up in the system whether state residents or not on the local television news. You may carry pepper spray legally, but it must be less than 1/2 ounce.

    niagara falls

My wife and I were up there in September. Canada doesn't allow firearms but they said they would hold them at the border. I didn't carry since going through NY. Drove up from GA. Crossing the border was a cake walk 10 minutes going into Canada. 3 minutes coming into NY. Pepper spray is forbidden in Canada but we had some in the car and no one was the wiser. Stay on the Canadian side the NY side is a dump. Stayed 4 days in Niagara Falls and it is nice. No problems ran around the falls and had a great time. Also here is a big money saving tip. Park at the Casino and go in and join the players club its free and then you can use the players club card to get out of the parking lot for free.

Well that is exactly the input I needed. We made it to Northern Ohio last night and will probably make it into NY & Canada sometime tomorrow. Unfortunately, I will have to leave my sidearm at the in-laws place on our trip.

    Thanks Again,

    Hunter.

If you have access to military bases, the Q's at the Niagara Falls Herk unit are pretty sweet and they were only about $30. That puts you about 15 mins from the falls, and the rooms are a lot cheaper. Hotels on the American side look low-rent. The Canadian side is rather beautiful, if overdeveloped. I recommend the Lady of the Falls boat tour. Skip the Behind the Falls tour unless you just have to go.

+1. Those are two places you may want to go armed, but cannot. They are communist paradises - one foreign (and that's their business but they won't get my vacation dollar) and the other one does not subscribe to the US Constitution.
