Transfer My Ky permit to Florida?
First of all, would I have to be a resident for 6 months or something first. It would be nice that once I make the move,I can just start the paperwork.
Also, how long has it been taking lately?
And any concerns I should have?
I will be moving in about 5 to 6 months.

Florida is one of the better states to deal with for a carry permit, I wouldnt let that be to much of a concern. With that said, I have no idea what kind of time frame you're looking at. I'm sure one of the Florida members will chime in and help you there.
I do believe you wil be able to carry on your KY permit in the mean time.

I think you just have to be a resident. So, go get your FL DL and then go apply for your Carry permit.

GOOD NEWS !!!!!!!! As PEACE KEEPR said get your FL DL and apply . 1 question though , did you have to take a class in KY or are you former military ? In Florida you need to take a gun course of some kind (preferably an NRA course) or have a copy of your discharge papers from the military. Then go by any local Gun shop and pick up a packet with the permit info in it . What part of Florida are you moving to ? FYI I was raised in E-TOWN , KY it's a great state ........

Not necessarily true.
Neither did I take a 'gun course' nor did I have 'discharge papers' from the military. My military training was sufficient. I was 'active duty' at the time I applied for and received my CWL from Charles Bronson. This was the summer of '05.

Don't wait, unless you want to.
FL will issue you a CCW even as a non-resident, and it's valid in quite a few states. (Some limit acceptance to actual FL residents.)
Once you move, you just update your address on the state's web site.
On the other hand - if you don't want to get it in anticipation, your existing CCW is accepted for (I think) 90 days after you move here.
So... come on down.....

As a TX resident, it took <30 days door to door to receive a FL permit. Only difference between mine and a residen't permit is the home address listed. Copy of the TX CHL class certificate met the training requirement...go ahead and get one now, update your address when you move...

Apply now so you have it when you move. Florida is an easy state to deal with.

Wow, unbeliveable, Brady and I actually agree. More states should be posting this one. Dirt bags get out or else suffer the occupational hazards that exist with it.

Get your paperwork in order (contact FL Dept of Ag)...should have it in 60-90 days...usually closer to 60...

I am just the opposite. I grew up in New Smyrna Beach, then moved to KY as a teenager (Louisville). I am really looking forward to moving back home.
BTW I am former Military, and we also had to take a course anyway here in Ky.
