I can guarantee you that if I had been in that store with my carry I would not have been surrying out of there as quickly as possible unless the BG had been 'armored' like the two bank robbers in LA(?) a few years ago. I would have tried to get an angle on him while utilizing cover to my advantage to attempt head and/or COM shots.
Do I want to ever get in that situation? No. But if I ever found myself in one I would do what I was able to, just like many, many others on this board I'm sure would do if it came to it.

So given this information, Security couldn't really act, at that exact moment, and by time the shooter exited the elevator, he came out shooting. No way, could have security prevented this from happening.
If I was working unarmed security, you can bet your a** that I wouldn't be trying to defeat a BG armed with a rifle.

But these security personnel still have to obey the same laws as the rest of us when it comes to disarming and GFZs unless they are off duty LEOs or the state code exempts them (not in VA IIRC).

Mentioned the mall shooting to my wife, and she starts off about how the mall we're going to is a "nice" mall, implying nothing bad could happen there.
Point out to her that Westroads was a "nice" mall until last week. Ask her what her definitions of "random" and "unexpected" are.
How to harden the target? Easy. Require all customers to change into mall supplied jumpsuits and use a metal detector. People will do just about anything to get to the mall. Look at airport security. Stinky feet and strip searches. Nobody cares.

unfortunately, the response will probably be to put up metal detectors at many malls...which will force us to enter unarmed.
That means the parking lots have 2 bad things going for them:
you leave and enter your car unarmed, making everyone an even higher risk for carjacking and robbery at their cars.
And there are now cars out there with unnattended guns...which is an attraction for bg's who need guns.
I am seriously worried about the solutions we are about to see....
