Got Made today

Traveling out of town for a couple of days but I was carrying my Kahr PM9 in an IWB with a vest thrown over it. Checked into the hotel where I am staying for the night. I took the vest off since I was in my room but I left the gun on my hip. Next thing I know is somebody is knocking on the door and opening it at the same time, saying "maintenance".

Well I got to the door about the same time the guy, older gentleman in hotel uniform, takes one step in the door. He sees me and stops, I have one hand up in front of me and my other hand is on the kahr. The mirror is facing the opening side of the door so I see his eyes glance to the mirror and I know he sees my hand and the gun. He immediatly apologizes and says he is checking internet connections in the room and didnt realize I was here. He backs out quickly with his eyes again cutting back to the mirror.

I guess you can say I got made.

You did exactly what I would do in the same situation. He will make sure a room is empty next time.
You didn't get made, you showed you were prepared for the wrong people.
Can't believe he didn't know the room was occupied.

That is without a doubt what I would have done. I would have also done that to make sure it wasn't a BG posing as an employee or even perhaps a crooked employee.

I say you responded well. Who's to say that it couldn't have been a former occupant of the room with an extra key trying to make some quick cash? Way to not hesitate.

There's nothing like an unexpected "pressure test" to show you where you can improve. I would take this as positive reinforcement that you performed how you are supposed to. Good job.

Man....I bet that dude waits a few minutes before entering...that isn't getting made...that is a ignorant hotel worker that almost get shot. OR a person posing as an employee...did you call the front desk after?

Exactly! You worry about yourself and others, and are responsible for your actions. You hold yourself to a higher standard because of the responsibility you have taken. Never any need to question your own actions, and no need for apologies. 'Accidents' will happen (as told by my instructor). Remain calm, and don't let things like this work on your psyche.

My definition of being made is the fact that someone discovers I have a gun, and it is no longer concealed. I would rather walk around all day and no one ever know I have a gun. Even a minor mistake made by a maintenance guy now means that someone in this hotel knows I am armed. Not a bad thing mind you, but something I prefer to keep to myself.

Unless of course shots are fired. Then every knows even the bad guy.

why he wouldnt wait to give someone a chance to respond is crazy to say the least.
