    Thumbs down naked in illinois

just got back from a family vacation. pretty good trip except going thru illinois. had to stop at the state line and unload the guns and put them in the trunk. as soon as we got to the missouri line, they were back up front where they belong. all the way thru illinois we didn't feel exactly nervous, but it felt kinda weird not having a gun on us. kinda like being naked in public. the wife said to get to a normal state as soon as possible. i don't think i could live in a non issue state. i feel sorry for those people.

    I know what you mean

I had to go through the same nonsense on a trip to Virginia. It sure makes a person feel vulnerable. We need a national reciprication law, and then we could just do a detour around the 4 states that don't allow CCW at all.

    Wink Illinois----

Know the feeling. I hit the stateline early one evening on my way to Colorado on a hunting trip a couple years ago. Pulled into the rest stop to use the head. Got out of the truck and heard this noise up in some low growing trees. Sure enough it was a few Illinois state birds---- they were about a half dozen chickens roosting in the trees. :D I never took my 649 out of the locked glove box. :)

Been thru there too. In fact in 2003 wife and I did quite a trip - covering -

MD, WV, KY, TN, AR, TX, NM, CO, KS, MO, IL, IN, OH and home. This was pre getting my FL non-res - so only IIRC KY and IN reciprocity. What a total PITA going thru different states - shuffle, juggle - crazy.

The background check for CCW is all the way to FBI level - so ''clearance'' by that token is Federal - which I'd read as good for all states. Pity things are so darned complex.

The worst part of Ill. is without preemption each town can make up their own rules. How is anyone suppose to know what they are. I hate being disarmed and won't go to those states unless absolutely unavoidable.

The greatest day of my life was July 26,2000.That was the day I moved myself and my famoly out of that sorry-a$$ state. It doesn't matter where you live in Illinois you have to live by Chicago's rules.

When I was young and immortal, I carried without real fear in Chicago - just like a lot of the city's residents.

Now, as much as I love some things about it, it's not worth losing many of my privileges to a felony, and I won't be unarmed. Thus, Illinois is on my "don't go there, period" list.

At least CA it's a misdemeanor. Sure, I'll pay a fine the first time, sure I'll lose the gun - but it's a world of difference versus what'll happen in Illinois.

Moved out of the People's Democratic Socialist State of Illinois this year. The only things I miss are the Chicago style pizza and our friends we left.

Now I carry everywhere I legally can.

I did the same thing in 2001. Miss my friends, but fortunately there's place in East Lansing (Near MSU, naturally) that has excellent Chicago Style pizza.

But I can't find a single place around here that sells Italian beef sandwichs!!!

I moved from Green Bay, WI to Calumet, MI back in May of this year. Best thing I ever did. 12 more days to apply. I have to be a resident for 6 months before I can apply. That sucks.

WI is borderline veto-proof majority in both the Senate and House this year. I have confidence WI will become state #47 this year.

Back in May? I hate to tell you this, but May was not 6 months ago. More like 3? Do you maybe mean February?
