Its time for a CCW
Well I think its time to get a CCW. I work for the State Of Colorado- Department Of Corrections as a Corrections Officer. I have been on the job for 11 years. There has been a few times I have run into some ex cons on the street but they have been respectful towards me. However there are some behind the walls that on an everyday basis want to hurt someone in blue. It can be a street cop or CO. Some of course will be getting out and I need to protect myself and whoever is with me. With the recent shootings in Colorado and Omaha, Ne I just need protection.

Wise decision - and even excluding your work aspect - as we all know - ''anywhere, anytime'' is the way to view things.
Sure - your risk factor may be higher but anyways - taking responsibility for your protection and of those you care for is - well, for us here, a no brainer!!
Do it - and get good training too if need be.

The situation will NEVER BE THE WAY YOU WANT, it WILL BE THE WAY IT IS. You must be FLEXIBLE ENOUGH TO ADAPT and just "DEAL WITH IT".

Welcome and agreed, wise thought.

Definitely get it. I'm not sure if your position would pass for the training requirement but if it doesn't or you want to get some additional training I would definitely suggest Jim Torrez and the Tactical Skills Institute.

Ditto: Welcome to the forum and yes, get on it!
Especially considering your job...were I you I would carry all the time.
Plus...it's just a darn good idea in general these days.

Welcome. Living in this tumultuous world is adequate reason to CCW, but considering your profession, I would think that your risk factor would increase greatly. I'm surprised that you haven't "Seen the light" before this and I am also surprised that any Correctional Officer, at any level, isn't automatically granted the right to CCW.

I am a state c.o. for N.C. I decided initially to carry for the same reason you are. Welcome. It's kinda odd that I can carry while in civilian clothes, but the minute i put on the uniform and step inside the walls, I am disarmed(well pepper spray and a baton don't count). I used to work in a medium security prison so I would see a few of my ex-cons out in the real world. I transferred a year and a half ago to maximum security and death row, so I no longer have to worry about seeing my inmates outside the walls anymore, but in this world, the people I know are ex-cons are the least of my worries. I now worry more about those people I don't know. Anyway, welcome to the forums.

Welcome from Michigan's U.P. Most will remember you when they get out, one way or another. I carry and reccommend it highly.
