I only have difficulty with #16 so I usually only load 15 rounds in the mags. I have not tried the loading tool.

I don't have a problem with loading mine either (XD-45c). I do remember using a my instructors duty G17 in a fighting pistol class a few years ago when my trusty 1911 broke an ejector and didn't have very much ammo for my back up gun with me. Anyway, his G17 mag's were so tight that loading the last two rds was just stupid. It actually bent my thumb nail back and caused a blister by the time the class was over. my thumb looked like I hit it with a hammer or something.
My G17 I have now (didn't have then) is no problem loading without assistance tho. It's a little stiff with the last two rds but nothing like my instructors G17 was. Kinda strange how they are not consistent no matter the brand.
Train and train hard, you might not get a second chance to make a first impression!

Doing some finger tip push-up's should help correct the problem.
Ok, in all seriousness... I haven't had any problems with my XD9 including both the 16 round mags, however when I first got my G-23 I had a heck of a time getting all 13 rounds in the mag. After shooting a few hundred rounds they seemed to load easier and I haven't had any problems since.
I couldn't use my loading tool with the glock because the first thing our firearms trainer on the swat team did was grab it and throw it away! Arrgghhh!

I spent more time loading 12 round mags today than shooting, but it's only painful after the 5th time putting that 12th round in.

they loosen up quick. within the first few times of fully loading them, they became a piece of cake.

But I also found that after the first few times, they break-in a bit, and all is well..
The one I had issues with, was a SIG P226 - now that one was HARD to load.
I wear a seatbelt, but I hope to never need it, I use smoke detectors in my house, but I hope to never need them, I carry life insurance, but I hope to never need it, I carry a weapon, but I hope to never need it.
