ATF "Pistol/AOW" Ruling Alert
Mods, axe/move it if you need to, but this struck me as pretty important:
There is a move for the ATF to "redefine" what constitutes a "Pistol", in relation to AOW standards. The aim of it seems to be to specifically capture the Stinger Pen Pistol as an AOW, but the wording is _extremely_, disturbingly, vague. I don't have any links, but I just read it in the latest issue of Small Arms Review, that hit the stands yesterday. Bob Houseman also had "Industry News", on the UN Small Arms Etc., Etc., that bodes extreme ill for any types of parts that escaped the "Parts Kit" decision .
Under Bush, it probably wouldn't be an issue, but it is so broad that it could easily encompass _any_ handgun that the Tech Branch felt pressured to issue a decree (excuse me, "ruling") on.

Yeah, this is a "mutator". The argument that they are "correcting omissions" from the original draft is patently false. Mark Barnes did the write-up in SAR, and his statements are very cogent(he's not an alarmist gun-ragger). Worth picking up, if available to you. (I might be able to scan it, but no promise!)
FYI: My experience with the Stinger was okay. I felt it was too "chunky" to lose, though, and it allowed a terminal-dissuader to be carried in areas where something other than "my back-up Maglite" was out of the question. Garnted, even a NAA Mini would be preferrable, but if you don't know what the Stinger is, and aren't familiar with firearms, you wouldn't have a clue. I can also safely say, I've never heard of a banger dropping $200 for a single-shot .32/.22.
