Going to detroit, need your prayers, body armor and ammo donations.

As a Christmas present I was given tickets to see the Trans-Siberian Orchestra perform at The Palace of Auburn Hills. So, me and my girlfriend are taking the dreaded trip. I plan on packing my sig p229R untill we get to the venue, and then thanks to Michigan's defenseless victim zones(seating capacity greater than 2500) I'll be locking it up in the car before I go in. Anyone from that area have any advice? I try not to travel to detroit more than I can possibly stand.

The Palace area wasn't too bad , when I was down there about 6 yr. ago. Just watch your six extra careful while in the venue.

I think you should have no worry of crime there because:
    1) I believe The Palace is a 'Gun Fee Zone', so there'll be no firearms except for police.
    2) Detroit's one of the safer cities in the U.S., isn't it?

A few years ago I was in Detroit and was leaving town on the eight lane heading south. Came to a place where traffic was basically stopped. Two hours later we are down to one lane and moving again. I'm a guy but what if I had been a pregnant lady on my way to the hospital.

Go to Palace. Lock your gun in your car. Enjoy the concert. Reconceal when getting to car. Leave. Enjoy ride home.

I would avoid Pontiac as much as possible. Stick to the Interstates if possible.

As Bud pointed out, The Palace is in Auburn hills, which is pretty nice. Keep alert when stuck in the palace traffic, don't wander through adjacent pontiac and you'll be fine (statistically speaking). Eyes open to and from the car. Disarming is a must as it is not off limits because it's posted, but because of state law. Do re-arm as soon as you get back in the car. Depending on where you come from, you can easily get to the palace while avoiding detroit all-together. Where are you coming from? Maybe we can give you routing that avoids the preferably avoided areas. I worked the road for 6 years in oakland and wayne counties. Worked plenty of medical stand-bys at the palace and trust me, I'd be suprised if the crews there get anything more exciting than a naturally occuring cardiac arrest. And believe it or not, most people that go into Detroit actually make it out unscathed.

Auburn Hills isn't Detriot....no problems there...been there quite a few times...just follow the right sign...and getting out after an event is usually a breeze...they really route traffic well...
The trans siberian orchestra isn't going to draw a rough crowd...

Now if you find yourself inside 8 mile, don't stop at white castle for directions...just turn around and drive for about 10 miles
