    Question Reciprocity Question...

I'll go straight to the example: I live in New York and have a CCW permit here. I also have a carry permit for PA. New York does not recognize any other State's permit. As a result, not many states honor a permit from NY. About twice as many honor a PA permit. My question is, am I legal in the states that honor PA's permit?

Been there, done that, got the bookmark...I guess my real question is whether or not it could be an issue in GA, for example, that the origin of my Permits is New York, which GA does not honor? It would appear the answer is "not an issue." Which seems quite obvious...always leery of obvious answers!

As I read the fine print on handgunlaw.us:

**Colorado (CO), Michigan (MI), South Carolina (SC), New Hampshire (NH), Florida (FL),Kansas (KS) and West Virginia (WV) only honor permits from residents of the issuing states.

Seeing as GA is not listed as one of the states that only honor resident permits, and GA honors PA permits, you should be good to go.

    Natty,

The way I understand it, your PA permit is a non-resident permit. As long as the state you're visiting recognizes non-resident permits, you should be OK. These states show up in yellow on handgunlaw.us.

Go to www.usacarry.com. Use the multistate permit map generator. Click your resident state first (NY) then click PA. It will show you everywhere you're legal. It will take into consideration the resident and non-resident status of your permits.

www.handgunlaw.us is an excellent source for links to things like off-limits areas for the various states.

Give the authorities in GA a call and ask.....usually works, or if you want something in writing email or snail mail.
