    Gun Bill in Kentucky

This bill would allow anyone to keep a firearm in their car. This is far short from the laws that need to be enacted but it would be a good step forward. Please read the article and vote in the poll.

I saw this earlier on another website. It's interesting because I always thought that KRS 237.106 - Right of employees and other persons to possess firearms in vehicle...(link to PDF file) pretty much covered that already.

It would appear that KRS 237.115 - Prohibition by local government units of carrying concealed deadly weapons in governmental buildings (link to PDF file) allows universities to preempt that law. Previously, I always thought that particular law simply allowed state universities to prohibit someone from carrying a weapon on their person and didn't apply to KRS 237.106, carrying in your car. In fact, I've been betting my job on it for a while, now.

I wrote a letter of support to a couple of the sponsors of HB 114 and would urge all Kentucky members of the forum to do so. The biggest obstacle to getting this bill out of committee will probably be Rep. Kathy Stein (Socialist-Lexington) who is a co-chair of the judiciary committee.

    YES 20

    no 14

Closer than I thought it would be. I ordered a mug from cafe press the other day, it has a picture of fish in a barrel and the barrel has one of those great "gun free zone" signs on it. That about sums up how I feel about it.

I had always thought that too, perhaps to the negative aspect of my job as well. I'll be firing off some e-mails here in a few. I love a Democrat was calling another Democrat a gun-control Sally. Kentucky rocks.

I thought you could have a weapon in your car too but I looked up the statutes and found this. http://docjt.jus.state.ky.us/forms/C...%20WEAPONS.pdf

I live in lexington which means in a large part of the city you can't keep a gun in your car due to the size of the University of Kentucky.

My understand is that CCW is permitted on campus by *law*, but that doing so violates university *policy*. So no criminal penalty, unless asked to leave and you don't (trespassing). Like a posted business.

It may be just me but both those polls appear to be worded in a way that would tend to elicit a negative response by someone who doesn't actually know the details.

Irrelevant, anyway. Don't bother with the online polls. If you want to do something, write your legislator.
