"I feel really safe with you"

I've got a new girlfriend, and I didn't carry around her the first few times we went out, just so I could get a feel for how she was around guns, and around me. We've been together now for a while, and I've been carrying, but she doesn't know.
Last week we got out of a movie late, and we were walking through downtown to my truck. It's in the 20's at night, so she was all bundled up, and I was carrying my XD OWB under a heavy shirt.
Holding hands, strolling down the road, and walked passed one of those "groups" that seems to like the darker corners of the side streets. My girlfriend got the normal heckles, whistles, and otherwise uncomfortable remarks from these upstanding gentlemen. No big deal, you expect these kinds of things every once in a while. I just smiled at them politely, said, "thank you" and we kept walking. Nothing became of it, and when we got back to my car, she gave me a big hug and said, "you're really confident, and I feel very safe with you." When her hands slid down my side, I got made, and she was like, "what's that?" Showed her the XD and she says, "Ohhhh. Now I feel really safe!"

Another girl comfortable around firearms. Good news for me

One thing that woman look for (although they will generally deny it) is a guy who will provide for her (nesting) and keep her safe.

I'll admit, I was nervous. I was theoretically way outgunned, and had another person to look out for. 10 rounds for 5 people, and I was already at a significant disadvantage wearing a heavy shirt. Couple that with the fact that I'm 5'10 and only 145lbs (not very menacing), and I breathe a sigh of relief when I walk away safely.

There is no dishonor in walking away from a fight.
I have done as much, and with a cocked and locked 1911 on my person.
You did well: you used the most important fighting tool in your arsenal:
    Your BRAIN.
Congratulations, well done and sweep that girl off her feet, she's a keeper!

    Excellent!

Now maybe you can keep adding more guns and equipment slowly to what you carry, and stop adding just before she begins to think you're paranoid.

Oh, and good reaction to the catcalls by saying "Thank you."

Anytime I have a chance to walk away from trouble means that I am having a VERY good day.

Provide for no, safe yes. I can provide for myself, and although I can keep myself safe it is nice to know he can too, just in case.

Actually, MY girlfriend actually uttered the phrase "I'm glad you had your gun" when we heard something hit the side of the house one night and I went out to investigate. (Just a turkey, dazed and confused )

Yup. Can't use what you don't have with you (spare ammo).

Amongst five aggressors, it's entirely possible (even likely) that one or more would have been armed with a gun or knife. Ten rounds to defend against five is a bad deal, no matter how you slice it. Thought about a couple spare mags, when out and about, particularly at night?

Kudos, though, on keeping it smooth while walking by with "radar" turned on high. Could have turned ugly, fast, but am glad it didn't.
